Havisham Havisham is a 16 line and four stanza poem with four lines making up each stanza. This poem shows the nature of an old woman after being devastated after being left at her wedding day and having lost her fortune to the man who left her. The four stanza poem is a harsh reflection of anger‚ pain‚ and disbelief; it’s a sad tale of a wedding and life gone horribly wrong that still haunts the character. In my review‚ I will explore the poem through each line and comment on the literary terms

In the poem Charge of the Light Brigade by Alfred Tennyson‚ their seems to be a strong rhythm which is shown in the first line of stanza 1 where it says “half a league half a league”. The word “league” is a way of measuring distance which it was about 3 miles so half a league is about 1.5 miles. This will give the reader a rough idea of the formation of the soldiers charging. In the second stanza‚ the light brigade has met with the enemy which is shown in the second to last line of the stanza which

In The Harlem Dancer by Claude McKay‚ the brief passage that unlocks the poem for me is "The light gauze hanging loose about her form." The metaphor of light gauze suggests that the female dancer had wounds from her past nevertheless she is still beautiful‚ and her heart is pure and chaste. This implies McKay felt sympathy and admiration for the dancer. These meanings connect to the rest of the poem in these ways: First‚ McKay describes her voice as “sound of blended flutes blown by black players
