How does pH affect the activity of the Amylase? Abstract: In my experiment I aimed to observe how ranging pH levels will affect the rate in which amylase will break down the starch molecules. I will be measuring the time it takes for the dark liquid to disappear and leave a yellow brown liquid to be shown‚ which would show that there is no starch present in the solution because it would have broken into maltose by adding amylase. Results did not fully demonstrate what we expected in our hypothesis

Pascal 10x3. Investigating How Different Concentration Effects The Rate Of Reaction. Strategy A Possible Factors * Source of catalase * Concentration * Surface Area of enzyme * Concentration of enzyme * pH * Temperature Chosen Factor We chose to investigate the concentration of enzyme as we had previously investigated the optimum temperature for catalase in the preliminary investigation. Concentration of enzyme is also fairly easy to investigate‚ as you need

optimum temperatures activity will decrease. Biological explanation This investigation is designed to look at the effect of temperature on the activity of the proteases Alcalase and Savinase. By the end of it I hope to know the optimum temperature of both proteases. The substrate I am going to use during the experiments is the protein gelatin‚ which is a translucent‚ colourless‚ brittle solid substance found in the collagen inside an animals’ connective tissues. In my experiments it is going to be

Enzymes Enzymes are… * Biological catalysts Lower the energy level needed for a biochemical reaction to occur. This energy level is called activation energy. * Proteins Polypeptide chains made up of 100’s-1000’s of amino acids in a specific sequence. * Do not get “used up” in a reaction The number of “uses” of an enzyme depends on the enzyme. * Work more efficiently at certain optimum temperatures. * They are “reaction-specific”. Each enzyme is included in one reaction.

CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background Design of Experiment (DOE) was developed in early 1920’s by Sir Ronald Fisher at the Rothamsted Agriculture Field Research Station in London‚ England. DOE can be used to observe how the design factor or parameters affect the performances. DOE also used to planning‚ designing and analyzing the experiment so that the objectives can be achieved and obtain effective results. The use of DOE in experiment reduce the time and effort with the availability of modern simulation

The Effect of Concentration Gradient on Osmosis Abstract: Osmosis is the passive movement of water from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration‚ usually across a membrane (Thorpe 2013). Tonicity is the ability of a solution surrounding a cell to gain or lose water (Reece 2011). There are many factors that affect the rate of osmosis. These include temperature‚ surface area‚ difference in water potential‚ pressure‚ light and dark and most importantly what we will be talking

Effects of Sucrose Concentration On Cell Respiration In Yeast Abstract This lab investigates the effects of Sucrose concentration on cell respiration in yeast. Yeast produces ethyl alcohol and CO2 as a byproduct of anaerobic cellular respiration‚ so we measured the rate of cellular respiration by the amount of CO2  produced per minute. The results show a trend wherein increased concentrations of sucrose increase the rate of cellular respiration. Introduction All living cells require energy
