Abstract The purpose of this lab was to test if ethanol affects the reaction involving hydrogen peroxide and catalase. Tests were performed by putting chicken liver‚ ethanol solution (diluted ethanol solution for other trials) and hydrogen peroxide in a test tube with a side arm‚ and having a rubber tube lead the oxygen gas into a gas collection tube. Results from the tests showed a negative correlation‚ this means that the more diluted the solution of 95% ethanol was‚ the less oxygen gas collected

Enzymes: Food & Nutrition What are enzymes Enzymes are a type of protein produced by a living organism used to catalyze chemical reactions in cells. These reactions allow the cell to build things or take things apart as needed in order to grow and reproduce. How do enzymes work - in steps 1) Substrate floats near enzyme 2) Substrate and enzyme connect – which breaks it into products 3) Products are released ex) BreadFast & Co.’s use of enzymes The company uses many different

Biology‚ Section G 27 September 2013 Experiment 5.3 Title: The Fragility of an Enzyme Purpose: To see how easily enzyme function can be destroyed. Hypothesis: I think that the bowl with only Jell-O will set as will the bowl with heated pineapple but the Jell-O with fresh‚ uncooked pineapple will not set. Materials: Part of a fresh pineapple A blender or a fine cheese grater 3 small bowls A small box of Jell-O Pot Stove Refrigerator 2 tablespoons Procedure: 1. Cut the pineapple

Temperature affecting enzyme activity Aim: To see how temperature can affect enzyme activity Prediction:-I think the one that will work best will be the rennin placed in milk at 37oC My independent variable will be the temperature My dependant variable will be how thick the milk becomes The equipment I need is milk‚ 5 test tubes‚ rennin‚ water bath‚ boiled rennin‚ a glass rod and a stopwatch Introduction: Rennin is an enzyme found in the stomach‚ its function is to solidify milk. We

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.‚ Catalyst for Change Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the greatest civil rights leaders that we all remember today. He influenced all races not just the black community‚ everyone looked up to him. Our entire country knows of him and everything he did to help African Americans receive equality in a full white community. Today Americans and people around the world view him as a wonderful man that taught peace‚ nonviolence and freedom through the Montgomery Bus Boycott

Enzymes are biological molecules‚ or proteins‚ that act as catalysts. Enzymes help complex reactions so that they may occur everywhere in life. For example‚ when you eat meat‚ the proteases work to help break down the peptide bonds that occur among the amino acids. Enzymes usually work to complete one specific job which makes them specific catalysts. They also won’t be found all over the body‚ enzymes are found in neural cells‚ intestinal cells‚ and saliva. Enzymes are among the many organic macromolecules
Premium Enzyme Chemical reaction Catalysis
Assessment of Catalase Function Lab Introduction The purpose of this lab report was to test and measure the rate of substrate destruction by an enzyme‚ we tested the destruction of hydrogen peroxide by the enzyme catalase. Hydrogen peroxide is a poisonous by product of metabolism that can damage cells if it is not removed. Catalase is an enzyme that speeds up the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen gas. H2O2 + catalase → H2O + O2 A catalyst is a substance that lowers the activation

and Virology. The objective of my thesis was to produce and characterize thermostable β-Galactosidase enzyme‚ which has been explored in various biotechnological‚ industrial‚ medical and analytical applications. The focus of research was not only limited to thermo stability of β-Galactosidase‚ but also to the production of large amount of enzyme in a short period of time. The β-Galactosidase enzyme hydrolyzes lactose into galactooligosaccharides‚ which are suitable for lactose-intolerant people and
