Art Museum as a Ritual Duncan begins her article‚ “The Art Museum as Ritual‚” by comparing art museums to religious/ceremonial spaces‚ not only in architectural design but also in their purpose. She states‚ however‚ that unlike churches or temples‚ museums are secular places where “the secular truth became the authoritative truth.” Thus‚ a separation of church and state came to be an‚ as Duncan states‚ “religion…kept its authority only for voluntary believers.” She then goes on to the differences

Upon entering the Philadelphia Museum of Art‚ the immediate visual effect of the architecture and large columns peaked my interest‚ while shifting my view towards the seven different exhibits. After analyzing the map to choose a section to start‚ the closest was American Art. This wing featured galleries featuring Philadelphia realist painter Thomas Eakins. The dark nature of the paintings was accented by dim museum lighting‚ adding to the effect of an electricity-deprived society. Haunting paintings

My experience at the Museum of Contemporary Photography was great. The museum consisted of three different levels that were available for viewing. The first level had a receptionist area to the left as you first walk in. They want you to check your things in if you have items with you so that you don’t destroy any of the art. The lighting was pretty favorable for viewing the photographs. The one thing that stood out was that the photographs varied in sizes. They had a few photos that were smaller

A Day at the Museum In the contemporary Art section of the Cleveland art museum we stopped in looked at an open book exhibit where different portfolios of pictures‚ words‚ and artist thoughts and ideas were on display for everyone to see. This was one of the more interesting pieces in the museum because you could interact with each artist on a more personal level. Most art displays you are not allowed to touch and u must admire from a distance and some you are4 not allowed to take pictures of.

As far as the article went‚ there were two directors for the University Museum after the founder passed away. It started as a small‚ personal collection that happened to be held at the University and only the owner’s friend were invited to view the small collection of art. Once the collection was passed on to Miss Kirkoff‚ she found the collection too valuable to be hidden away and thought that it should be shared and expanded upon for the greater good of the University. She thought it should be
