Heart Rate Experiment Introduction: The heart rate measures the contractions of your heart and is a requirement for life. The heart uses four chambers. The right and left-lower chambers are called ventricles‚ and right and left-upper chambers are called atria. These four chambers complete two cycles that replenish the tissues with oxygen and get oxygen from our lungs. The heart rate is measured in beats/ minute and a “beat” is when the lower chambers are (two ventricles) contract. This

Susan Harrison Aims: 1. To make simple measurements of body parameters 2. To assess whether they fall in the normal range Introduction In this practical you are going to measure your height (cm) and weight (Kg)‚ % skinfold fat‚ pulse rate (b/min) and blood pressure (mmHg). Put values on Excel sheet provided. 1. Size Equipment: Stadiometer; weighing scales. Measure your height (without shoes) in centimetres (cm) and weight in kilogrammes (Kg). Compare your weight with reference

Part I: Pulse Rate Take your pulse at the wrist‚ as described on the Work Out tab of 4.02‚ and record it below. Your count for 30 seconds ___ x 2 = ___ bpmDay 1 _____Day 2 _____Day 3 _____Total _____ divide by 3 = _____ This is your Resting Heart RateObtain your Maximum Heart Rate (MHR) by subtracting your age from 220. Example 220 – 21 = 199 1. Subtract your resting heart rate (RHR) that you calculated in Part II above from the maximum heart rate (MHR) that you just determined in Step

Discussion Heart Rate Our hypothesis stated 1.) The heart rate increases substantially when a person performs a physical activity and 2.) Females have heart rates greater than males’. In this experiment we measured the resting heart rates and exercise heart rates of both the male and females that are in the class. We calculated the results that were taken by each member of each group in the class (6 males and 16 females total). The average resting heart rate for women was 71.8 beats per minute

customers’ needs anymore. So‚ our company has designed a brand new promotional gift. It can best suit our clients’ needs and lifestyles. This is – a heart rate watch. First of all‚ if you look at this paper‚ you can see that this watch has a function that has never been designed for before – a heart rate monitor. It enables the users to measure their heart rate while doing exercises. Actually‚ the underlying purpose of this design is to immerse into customers’ daily lives. Let’s imagine that‚ when you

Heart rate in black worms with and without added glucose Introduction: The circulatory system is important in circulating blood‚ nutrients‚ oxygen and chemicals to the body. A circulatory system commonly consists of the fluid it contains‚ such as blood‚ a pumping vessel such as a heart‚ and the vessels‚ which carry the fluid through the body. In a closed circulatory system‚ the fluid‚ blood‚ is contained within the vessels as it circulates through the body. The Lumbriculus variegates‚ or

Assignment 1 UNIT 1 Question 1 (5 marks): Discuss the rate-limiting factor. Why is it important to consider when studying exercise physiology and training? Provide one example to clarify your understanding. The rate-limiting factor is the “step” that limits performances (the “slow step”). If we know the rate-limiting step in a certain physiological pathway or training situation‚ we can manipulate the factors of this step to change and increase the rate of the pathway. This will improve overall training

April 25‚ 2013 Some Factors that Affect the Rate of a Reaction BACKGROUND: Chemical reactions occur at different rates. In this experiment I will consider some of the key factors that influence the rate of a reaction: * nature of reactants - particle size * temperature * catalysts According to the collision theory‚ the rate of a reaction depends on the frequency of collisions between reacting particles. The more frequent the collisions‚ the faster the rate of the reaction

How do limiting factors affect the rate of photosynthesis? Rate is the measurement of an amount of product or time. In the case of the rate of photosynthesis‚ it is measuring the gain of mass or growth over time. If the plant is an aquatic one that grows in water the rate of photosynthesis can be measured by counting oxygen bubbles or the volume of gas produced in a measured time period. A limiting factor is something that is present in the environment that has a short supply and because of that

My results and the graph indicate that as you add the caffeine to the daphnia‚ the eart rate of the daphnia increases for example the daphnia’s heartbeat is 120 without caffeine‚ however when caffeine is added it is increased to 168. My graph shows a positive correlation and the error bars are also very small which shows that the results have a small range which suggests that my results are accurate and reliable. I think that the experiment was conducted well however there may be some ethical issues
