    It’s held for several weeks leading up to Mardi Gras.  The carnival parade is defined as “defile” in Creole. The carnival takes place in the capital of Haiti‚ Port au Prince‚ which is also the largest city in Haiti. Carnival is funded by wealthy Haitian families and by the government of Haiti.  Carnival season in Haiti starts at the end of January; it’s called Pre-Kanaval.
