In this experiment‚ we used simple distillation and extraction to do synthesis of 1-bromobutane. The experiment was carried out by mixing 13.3 g of sodium bromide‚ 15 mL of water and 10 mL of n-butyl alcohol in a 100 mL round bottom flask. We cooled the mixture and added 11.5 mL of concentrated sulfuric acid. Then the mixture was heated at reflux with a short condenser for 45 minutes and then we drained out the condenser. We removed the condenser and distillation head was set up to set up the condenser

to break it down the cell will die‚ along with the organism itself. However with the aid of an enzyme‚ catalase‚ hydrogen peroxide is able to be broken down into an intermediate and thereafter harmless substances water and oxygen. The goal of this lab is to measure the reaction rate of this process in different substances such as a liver‚ a vegetable‚ and breast tissue. By using variables such a pH and temperature we are able to how the rate of reaction is altered or improved. If it has improved

nCH3 The first step in the lab is the preparation of the solvent used in the developing chamber for thin layer chromatography. The solvent used is a 3:1 mixture of toluene and petroleum. After the developing chamber is prepared‚ it is essential to begin preparation of the unknown DNPH derivative[6]. The preparation of the 1‚2 DNPH derivative of a ketone is in fact a small organic synthesis which produces a fraction of a gram of product. The second part of the lab makes use of NMR Spectrometry

Section 2 EXPERIMENT: DNA & Protein Synthesis Exercise 1 – Modeling DNA 1. List the four bases which are found in DNA. (1 pt) The four bases found in DNA are cytosine‚ adenine‚ guanine and thymine. 2. Fit any six nucleotides together to form a row‚ then list the six nucleotides in the order you used them. Work with your model pieces and try fitting the bases together to make a double strand as shown in Figure 9 of the lab manual. Which nucleotides form pairs

Microscale Synthesis of Acetylsalicylic Acid [pic] Introduction: Acetylsalicylic acid is a wonder drug par excellence. It is widely used as an analgesic (pain reliever) and fever depressant. It also reduces inflammation and may even prevent heart attacks. It has a few side effects for some people‚ yet it is safe enough to be sold without a prescription. Because it is easy to prepare‚ aspirin is one of the most inexpensive drugs available. It is produced in vast amounts. In fact‚ industry
