Abstract The purpose of this lab was to test if ethanol affects the reaction involving hydrogen peroxide and catalase. Tests were performed by putting chicken liver‚ ethanol solution (diluted ethanol solution for other trials) and hydrogen peroxide in a test tube with a side arm‚ and having a rubber tube lead the oxygen gas into a gas collection tube. Results from the tests showed a negative correlation‚ this means that the more diluted the solution of 95% ethanol was‚ the less oxygen gas collected

experiment used two pieces of fish‚ one whole and one ground up‚ which were then covered in hydrogen peroxide. This method allowed us to observe the catalase in ground up fish break down the hydrogen peroxide at a quicker rate than in the piece of fish left intact. This was determined by observing a larger formation of bubbles‚ the visual indicator of hydrogen peroxide being broken down into a non-toxic form of hydrogen and water. This study allowed us to observe first hand catalase can perform further

Investigating the Effect of Concentration on the Rate of Enzyme Catalysed Reaction  To investigate the effect of concentration on the rate of enzyme  catalysed reaction I must know all the factors that affect it in order  to investigate in this.  Here are all the factors:  Temperature- Enzyme like it warm but not too hot. Enzymes are  biological catalysts‚ which speed up chemical reactions. They work  most efficiently at the optimum point (37°C). If they are below 37°C  they will work

This section analyzes and presents the results of the two trials conducted‚ including the trial in which Hydrogen peroxide(H2O2) was denatured by a cold catalase solution and the other in which the Hydrogen peroxide(H2O2) was denatured by a hot catalase solution. The experiment conducted displayed signs of experimental error as there were many situations in which the materials provided could have faulted. Theoretically speaking‚ from the inconsistent values provided for the pH levels‚ a possible

Catalase Lab Purpose: To observe the effects of hydrogen peroxide on living tissue and non-living materials‚ showing the presence or absence of catalase as observed by the presences of bubbles. Hypothesis: If we pour H2O2 on certain substances‚ the catalase will break down and bubbles will appear at the surface. Data table: Name | Time | Observation | Raw Potato | 1 min. 30 sec. | Slow reaction‚ barley any bubbles. | Raw Liver | 5 min. 30 sec. | Extremely fast reaction‚ very foamy‚ Big

Research Question Does the concentration of substrate (H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide)) have an effect on the activity of the enzyme (catalase)? Theory The higher the substrate concentration the more quickly product is produced (rate of reaction increases) until enzyme saturation is reached at which time more substrate has no further effect. Enzymes such as Catalase are protein molecules which are found in living cells. They are used to speed up specific reactions in the cells. They are all

different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Prediction would be‚ that the filter paper discs that were used‚ will rise up to the surface in a time in the tube of different concentration of hydrogen peroxide. And in different concentrations the time will be different. As higher the concentration would be‚ the less time it would take for the filter paper discs to rise to the surface. 2. Experimental design. Independent variable – is the concentration of hydrogen peroxide‚ in this experiment

Abstract: Enzymes‚ molecules that speed up chemical reactions‚ are specific to one substrate. In this experiment the substrate hydrogen peroxide and the enzyme catalase will be used. The higher the concentration of potato extract‚ or catalase‚ the faster the reaction and the more substrate present will result in a decrease in the time of the reaction. The amount of concentrations of enzymes and substrates are changed to determine if the reaction is further catalyzed by a greater concentration of

acidic‚ the enzyme will quickly denature. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is naturally formed in living organisms‚ however it is very harmful and is broken down immediately by several enzymes including catalase. This enzyme catalyses the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen. Persons with acatalasemia (a hereditary condition) have extremely low catalase activity and‚ although present worldwide‚ it is more commonly found in Koreans. Hydrogen Peroxide is usually used as a topical disinfectant
