Artemisa Gentileschi was born in Rome July 8‚ 1593. She was the oldest child in the family being raised by her father‚ a Roman Painter named Orazio Gentileschi‚ allowing early exposure to the world of art. As she became older she expanded on her art and became a Baroque style painter and was the first woman to become a member of the Accademia di Arte del Disegno in Florence. She was one of the only women in the world of art who got recognition of her ability in the male dominated society (Brash 2014)
