In my essay I decided to take on the second and third topics. I’ll first address and examine Anselm’s ontological argument for the existence of God while restating and critically examining Aquinas’s first argument for the existence of God. After I finish with that topic I will then take on Paley and his argument and whether or not it thoroughly proves the existence of God conceived as a supremely perfect being and why or why not this is. During this topic I will bring in Dawkins’ and Hume’s criticisms

Sattam Alhowaish Dr. Thomas Package PH 200 September 28‚ 2015 All life around us seems like it has patterns. Isn’t true? Throughout class we have discussed the outcomes of what or who God is or if he even exists. The design from argument theory suggests that everything is relevant and was produced by something greater than us. The Argument from Design tries to prove the existence of God by asserting the claim that in order for a design to exist there must have been a designer (God). The idea that

mainly on Paley’s version of the argument. The most popular way to argue for the existence of God in Paley’s day was by use of an anaology. Therefore‚ in Natural Theology‚ we see Paley comparing the world to a watch in order to prove that an intelligent designer God created the world. Paley states that if one were crossing a heath and saw a stone‚ one would not question its existence‚ as it is just a stone which could have been there forever. However‚ if one came across a watch‚ one would be able

Faith in Science With increasing scientific breakthrough due to better technology‚ the understanding of the origin of life seems to be on the verge of scientific fact rather than theory. Because of this‚ well-educated scientists seem to think that those who hold on to religious beliefs are un-educated or just set in their ways‚ unwilling to see the truth before them. It may seem to many in the scientific community that a belief in God is not only inappropriate‚ but unwelcome. But because scientists

2 INTELLIGENT AGENTS In which we discuss what an intelligent agent does‚ how it is related to its environment‚ how it is evaluated‚ and how we might go about building one. 2.1 INTRODUCTION An agent is anything that can be viewed as perceiving its environment through sensors and acting upon that environment through effectors. A human agent has eyes‚ ears‚ and other organs for sensors‚ and hands‚ legs‚ mouth‚ and other body parts for effectors. A robotic agent substitutes cameras and infrared

Similarly to Paley‚ he argued that all natural occurrences show evidence of design. He claimed that this suggested there is a being which directs all things‚ and as humans have knowledge this being must also be knowledgeable. Therefore there is an intelligent being that directs everything towards its purpose‚ and Aquinas stated that this being must be God. Unlike Paley‚ Aquinas explained that God is a designer at work who continues to direct us towards our purpose as well as regulating the universe (e

“The aggregation of highly talented or highly intelligent people does not necessarily make an effective team.” Talented people can help a team perform in a high performance level to meet its specific goals. However‚ talented people can also instill a sense of disharmony within an already effective team. Robertson and Abbey (2003) acknowledge that having talented people in a team requires having different values and motivation from the majority of the people. This statement can be seen with various

creationists has devised a minimalist form of Creationism—dubbed "Intelligent Design"—in the hope of evading the constitutional barrier to teaching creationism in public schools. I am suspicious about the design-type idea not only due to the fact that ID derives from creationism‚ but also because of the faulty way its proponents develop their arguments. The argument of Intelligent Design commences from a denial of evolutionism‚ which turns Intelligent Design into a sophistry. This argument roots the correctness
