Investigating the Reactions between Polyvinyl Alcohol and Borax in Making a Rubber Ball Introduction Chemistry‚ while usually thought of as being practiced mostly in labs‚ actually affects everyone‚ everywhere. Chemistry and chemical processes are constantly occurring. We are dependent on them. The air that we breathe‚ the food that we eat‚ and thousands of other simple and confusing things depend on chemistry. In this particular case‚ the relationship between Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) and Sodium

Gracen Seiler April 7th‚ 2015 Section- 109 Investigating Stoichiometry with Sodium Salts of Carbonic Acid Introduction- This experiment is intended to help find a better understanding of chemical stoichiometry through titrations of NaHCO3 and NA2CO3 with HCl. A chemical reaction is a process that involves rearrangement of the molecular or ionic structure of a substance‚ as opposed to a change in physical form in a nuclear reaction. Titration is when a measured amount of

Investigating the possibility of a developmental trend in the way that children describe themselves. Abstract This version of Rosenberg’s research into children’s self-descriptions analysed data from semi-structured interviews with two children; Annie (8) and Kirsty (16). The data was interpreted to ascertain whether‚ as in Rosenberg’s research‚ children’s self-descriptions show evidence of a developmental progression and whether locus of self-knowledge shifts from other to self as children

Advances in brain imaging technology (BIT’s) enable us to investigate the relationship between biological factors and human behaviours in greater depth. BIT’s are used to move away from more invasive techniques of studying the brain‚ such as liasoning - intentional scarring of the brain‚ and ablation - intentionally cutting out pieces of the brain. The brain imaging technologies that will be examined are electroencephalography (EEP)‚ functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)‚ magnetic resonance

Assess the strengths and limitations of using overt participant observation as a means of investigating police attitudes. (15 marks) Overt participant observation involves the researcher being open with the group they are going to study. This means they are able to over-see the experiment that is taking place whilst being involved in it. A positive of using this method when researching police attitudes is that as the researcher will be involved in the experiment; they will gain first-hand experience

Aims The aims of this investigation are: 1. To find the rate equation of the reaction of hydrogen peroxide and iodide ions. This will be achieved by using an iodine clock method and colorimetric analysis. 2. Draw a graph of rate against concentration for each reactant (Hydrogen peroxide‚ potassium iodide and H+ ions). 3. Finding the order for each reactant 4. Finding the rate-determining step. 5. Proposing a mechanism for the reaction. 6. Using Arrhenius’ equation to find the activation

Interpretation and Evaluation of Results Interpretation: The results from the experiment determining the effects of pH on enzyme activity show that as the independent variable‚ pH‚ increases the dependent variable‚ percentage transmission‚ decreases. This is shown in the results as at the lowest pH‚ pH 4.0 the average percentage transmission is at its highest at 97%. At the highest pH‚ pH 8.0 the average transmission is 78.5%. This is also supported from the graph as it produces a negative gradient

How Surface Area Affects the Motion of a Falling Object Introduction During this investigation‚ varying surface areas of objects will be explored in a manner observing the motion as they fall. Most predominantly‚ this motion encircles speed. Speed is calculated from the formula below‚ and hence is directly proportionate to time taken when the distance travelled remains a constant. Speed = Distance/Time Surface area is likely to affect the time taken for an object to complete a descent‚ and
