    One observation that I made in this weeks readings is the different emotional charge behind male characters towards towards female characters. In "The jilting of Granny Weatherall"‚ Katherine Anne Porter develops Dr. Harry as a man who’s emotions towards Granny Weatherall come out of sympathy for her misfortune as she drifts away in her hospital bed. Dr. Harry responds to his grouchy patient with‚ "Now‚ now‚ be a good girl‚ and we’ll have you up in no time" (Porter 85). This overly sympathetic dialogue
