Personally‚ I found the chapter about Dagoberto Gilb to be extremely interesting to read. The inclusion of pictures in the textbook really allows a reader to get a better understanding of the author before they read the stories. I found “Love in L.A.” to be particularly compelling. The text leading up to the short story provides the reader with insight to Gilb’s life. Gilb’s life is that of a typical working class American. This knowledge provides insight into the meaning and motive behind “Love

Society needs certain key parts to ensure that humanity doesn’t fall. This includes safety and freedom. Some people‚ like writer H.L. Mencken‚ believe that safety should be our priority‚ not freedom‚ “The average man does not want to be free. He simply wants to be safe.” Certain freedoms need to be surrendered to ensure our safety. The freedom to wear a seatbelt is one example of this. Seat belts can help protect a person in car crashes‚ and if a police officer catches them without one on‚ there’s

Why is it that some women have to fight to defend their right to achieve an education in a safe‚ inclusive environment? On December 6th‚ 1989‚ in Montreal‚ Quebec‚ it appeared that gender equality meant nothing. Known as the Montréal Massacre‚ this tragic mass shooting of 14 young female engineering students at L’Ecole Polytechnique had an impact on many Canadians by bringing attention to the perceived safety of all Canadian women.
