Spinach extract was separated into fractions containing compounds of similar polarity by column chromatography. Based on solid-liquid phase partitioning‚ this separation technique exploited the different polarity of the compounds in the spinach extract. Three fractions with different colors were obtained. The extract and its fractions were analyzed using thin layer chromatography (TLC). The TLC results showed that there was one compound (Rf=0.979) in the first fraction; there were three compounds (Rf1=0

Cr in different fractions in cores MD and SH are given in the Table 2. In core MD‚ Fe‚ Mn‚ Ni‚ Co and Cr were highest in the residual fraction. Metals viz. Fe‚ Ni‚ Co and Cr were present in more than 65 % in the residual fraction‚ while Mn was around 40 %. Next to the residual fraction‚ Mn‚ Ni and Co were present in the Fe-Mn oxide fraction‚ while Fe and Cr in the organic bound fraction. Metals viz. Fe‚ Ni‚ Co and Cr were available in least concentration in the carbonate fraction. Manganese was least

of hexane and toluene in each fraction. Also this lab gives experience with semi-micro distillation in order for experiments in the future that might need this purification setup. Experimental Procedure: This lab follows the experimental procedure of the book as outline in the Mayo book on pages 133 and 134. However; the following modification were made to the procedure: Use gas chromatography instead of refractive index Collect GC for only fraction 1 and fraction 3 because of time constraints

ORGANIC CHEMISTRY LAB 2: Separation of Organic Liquid Mixtures Introduction: In this experiment‚ a mixture of two compounds‚ cyclohexane and toluene‚ was separated into fractions by the techniques of simple and fractional distillation. The individual fractions that were gathered from the distillation were analyzed using gas chromatography (GC) and used to compare the efficiencies of the two different distillation techniques. The ultimate goal of this experiment was to determine whether simple

separated fractions are removed continuously as output streams. A distillation is the separation or partial separation of a liquid feed mixture into components or fractions by selective boiling (or evaporation) and condensation. A distillation produces at least two output fractions. These fractions include at least one volatile distillate fraction‚ which has boiled and been separately captured as a vapor condensed to a liquid‚ and practically always a bottoms (or residuum) fraction‚ which is

The values of corrected absorbances and the mole fraction of en (X) are plotted to obtain a curve. From these curves‚ an intersection from the 2 trend lines are determined‚ denoting the values of x‚ needed for the determination of n. The process led the group with similar values of n which is 1‚ indicating

support the same cause whether or not they are opposing it or for it. James Madison goes on to talk about the cures of getting rid of fraction. Basically you can either remove the causes of fractions or you can try to control its effects on fractions. He stated metaphors that help you understand the seriousness of how bad fractions really are. “Liberty is to fraction what air is to fire.” He goes on to say that without liberty it would be the end of political life and without air; we would not be able
