Lab Report 3: Combustion of Magnesium and Specific Heat of a Metal C4C Jeffrey Silvin Fall 2017 Major Kittle Chem 100 T1 Introduction The purpose of this lab was to determine an experimental value for the heat of formation of MgO with Hess’s Law and then use the result to find percent error. To do so‚ approximately 50 mL of 1.0 M HCl was added to a calorimeter. Initial temperature was measured and then 0.25 g of Mg was added. After the reaction is completed the maximum temperature was recorded.

bar‚ 3 and 5 ml conical vial‚ 50 mL Erlenmeyer flask‚ claisen adapter‚ drying tube and 5 glass pasteur pipets were first added to a 250mL beaker and placed in the oven for 30 minutes. After the completion of the thirty minutes‚ 0.150 g of shiny magnesium turnings and a stir bar was first added to the round bottom flask and the claisen adapter along with the drying tube packed with calcium chloride was added to one of the heads of the claisen adapter. A rubber septum was then added to the other head

Burning Magnesium Lab Purpose: To experimentally determine the percent composition of a reaction product. Directions: Work in teams of three. The directions for this lab are on a separate sheet of paper at your lab bench. Make sure that everyone in your group understands the process and purpose before you get started. Assign tasks. Everyone in the group will be expected to contribute at the same level of participation‚ and for this experiment‚ each individual will submit a formal lab report

Experimental Determination of the Formula of Magnesium Oxide. Introduction: Magnesium is a mental‚ it is known to react with oxygen. Magnesium reacts vigorously when heated in the presence of air‚ which is why we have chosen high heat in our method to facilitate combustion. This oxidation reaction produces magnesium oxide gaining oxygen from the air. When sharing of electrons occur a chemical bond is made and the atoms combine to form a molecule. So‚ the predicted molecular formula:

Lab Report Marisa McKinney P. 2 Purpose: To investigate the periodic variation of density in Group 4A elements. Background: When the elements are arranged in order of increasing atomic number‚ they exhibit periodic recurrence of properties. Elements in the same group in the periodic table tend to have similar physical and chemical properties. These similarities are due‚ in large part‚ to similarities among the electron configurations of the elements in a group. You can find periodic

Alka-Seltzer Rocket Formal Lab Report Abstract In the Alka-Seltzer Rocket lab one was to experimentally determine how much (grams) Alka-Seltzer and water in mL‚ is needed to launch the rocket the highest/longest distance in cm. Also to experimentally determine the % NaHCO3 in the tablet using the information from the highest/longest distance. Calculate the error and % error of NaHCO3 in an Alka-Seltzer tablet and to determine the limiting reagent for the highest/longest distance traveled. Alka-Seltzer
