Introduction Tetraphenylporphyrin will be synthesized and metallated with silver acetate. After purification and NMR and UV-visible spectra was taking for the original porphyrin synthesized and the silver porphyrin. From this data obtained we will talk about silver’s effect on porphyrin. Theory Porphyrin is important to study because it plays keys roles in biological process; they are responsible for giving plants and blood their colors green and red respectively. Porphyrins have the iron chelate

In this lab‚ we used Bunsen burners to heat up a hydrated salt in order to determine the percentage of water inside of this hydrated salt. We heated up the salt in order to boil off the water‚ which allowed us to find the weight of the CuSO4 by itself. By comparing this final weight with the original weight and subtracting the difference‚ we were able to compile data about how much the weight of the hydrated salt decreased as the water gradually boiled away. In doing so‚ we were able to find the

In order to find the formula of the copper chloride hydrate‚ we had to separate the compound to find the mass of water and copper. To begin this process‚ we evaporated the water and created an anhydrous compound‚ meaning we were left with only CuxCly. By calculating the weight of both the anhydrous and the hydrated compounds‚ we could conclude that the difference in the weights was the weight of the H2O. From this we were able to calculate the percent composition of CuxCly and H2O (see Calculations:

According to the evidence derived from our lab‚ we have determined that Unknown A‚ B‚ C‚ and D are to be identified as the Sprite‚ burger‚ fries‚ and bun‚ respectively. Each Unknown provided evidence that we eventually used to match to each element of the meal. Along with the lab data‚ our prior knowledge also led us to our results. We were able to determine that Unknown A is the Sprite due to the fact that every test was negative except for simple sugars‚ a macromolecule that the majority

Pre-Lab Discussion An empirical formula is a formula for a chemical compound found by direct laboratory examination. Laboratory procedures allow the chemist to find the simplest whole number ratio of elements within the compound. In order to find the true molecular formula‚ the chemist also needs to know the compound’s molecular mass. The general procedure is to use laboratory techniques to determine the mass of each element in the compound. In this lab‚ we will react a known quantity of magnesium
