“Still I Rise”‚ by Rosephanye Powell‚ was the first collegiate choir concert that I have ever attended. I enjoyed the Ball State University Women’s Chorus as well as the Mt. Vernon High School Expressions Women’s Choir. Additionally‚ I loved that they combined choirs to perform “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” and “Still I Rise”. I chose to report on “Still I Rise” due to the lyrics of the song and the solo performances. This piece inspired me to persevere through life’s difficulties‚ especially because

The person in the song is a man performing a field holler or cry. The song sounds improvised‚ and doesn’t sound like it was for conveying a request or communicating a need. The lyrics include “I won’t be here for long” and “Dark gonna catch me here”‚ so I think the man is saying his current state‚ which is it is almost the end of the day in the cornfield and if he stays any longer‚ he will be stuck in the dark. He is conveying this message for the whole field to hear‚ including his master(s). In

I also noticed a little bit of polyphony in there when the chorus started to sing lower and then start to get higher around “He shall reign for ever and ever”. I believe where I detected it‚ along with the dynamics taking an effect. Then the around the ending the homorhythmic melody came back because of the settings from the trumpets

Picture this. You are waiting outside your middle school in the bus parking lot with your three best friends talking about how you and the “bf” finally took it to the next level and hugged in between classes. When the bus arrives‚ you run to get your usual seats in the very back‚ and whip out the iPod. “Still into You” by Paramore‚ is catchy‚ upbeat‚ and relatable to you and your boyfriend. Unlike most pop songs‚ “Still Into You” has had an influence on millions of young teenage women‚ because it

In the song‚ "Over the Rainbow"‚ by Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg‚ the narrative voice sings of yearning to be in a better place. In order to embark in such a joyous place where anything is possible and dreams come true‚ one must experience an odyssey in order to get there. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary‚ an odyssey is “a long wandering or voyage usually marked by many changes of fortune” and/or “an intellectual or spiritual wandering or quest”. The destination in the song may be described

metaphor for hope. The poem begins‚ saying that said bird‚ perches in the soul‚ and sings. Emily says that it would take a powerful storm to smother the birds song‚ using a storm as a symbol for hardships in a persons life and the effect they can have on their hopes. I think that the way Emily phrased her comparison is absolutely perfect. Emily then goes on to say how the bird continues to sing‚ never stopping‚ yet never asks a single thing in return. The way Emily captures

Some of the lyrics that he sings‚ such as “I’m white… inside… but‚ that don’t help my case…” helped give Jazz expressivity as well as shows how Jazz could be very blue. Louis’ voice while singing this particular song comes off as sad or down. There seems to be a lot of emotion and pain behind his words. This is some of the expression in Jazz music that helped to set Jazz apart from most other music‚ which at the time was more upbeat and happy. With Armstrong being able to sing and play‚ along with his

Youth is wild‚ and Age is tame:- Age‚ I do abhor thee; Youth‚ I do adore thee; O! my Love‚ my Love is young! Age‚ I do defy thee- O sweet shepherd‚ hie thee‚ For methinks thou stay’st too long. Hark! the lark at heaven’s gate sings‚ And Phoebus ’gins arise‚ His steeds to water at those springs On chaliced flowers that lies; And winking Mary-buds begin To ope their golden eyes: With everything that pretty bin‚ My lady sweet‚ arise! When Reba sings this song the message is different. She sings it as a grown woman. Looking back at her own failed relationship‚ and the mistakes she made and that she is telling a story to younger women not to stay and wait for men who treat you this way. The different genres really show
