Laboratory(TFMB1001) Report Experiment Tittle Gram stain Experiment Date 24October2014 Submission Date 31October2014 Students Name Tittle Gram stain. Objectives Aim of this experiment is to differentiate between the two major categories of bacteria ‚ gram positive and gram negative. Through this experiment‚ gram staining skills develop. More understanding the types and morphology of bacteria. Expected experimental result‚ Escherichia coli (E.coli ) is a negative gram bacteria which stain pink colour

SYNTHESIS OF THE PHARMACEUTICAL ASPIRIN (ACETYLSALICYLIC ACID) AIM: The aim for this experiment was to synthesise a small amount of aspirin with salicylic acid as the starting product and sulphuric acid as the catalyst. The product obtained from this reaction will be impure and will need to be purified. This will be done by recrystallization. We will then record the products’ melting point and calculate the yield in order to determine the degree of purity of the aspirin sample. Diagrammatic scheme
Premium Acetic acid Aspirin Acetic anhydride
Percent Acetic Acid in Vinegar Introduction: Acetic acid is reactive when combined with calcium carbonate. In this lab‚ we will use vinegar for its acetic acid and egg shells for their calcium carbonate. Marketable vinegar differs in its acetic acid concentration from 4-6%. Calcium carbonate reacts with the acetic acid in vinegar to produce carbon dioxide‚ water‚ and calcium acetate as represented by the equation: CaCO3 + 2HC2H3O2 CO2 + H2O + Ca(C2H3O2)2. The calcium carbonate reacts with

Experiment 2: Centrifugation Title Centrifugation of fresh milk and Acetic Acid Objective(s): 1. To separate coagulated milk from mixture of fresh milk and Acetic Acid by centrifugation 2. To determine the relationship of speed of centrifugation with the coagulation of milk which separate from mixture. 3. To study the process of centrifugation Introduction Centrifugation is a process which materials suspended in a liquid medium undergo separation or concentrate due to the effect of gravity

amounts of reactants‚ theoretical amounts of product can be calculated in a chemical process. These calculated products are determined using the limiting reagent‚ (the substance that runs out first which stops the reaction) and are called the theoretical yield. The theoretical yield is the amount of product that should be acquired during the experiment if all aspects go perfectly. However‚ due to experimental errors‚ very few labs do so. These results are called actual yield. The percent ratio between

NAME: PRAJWAL BHARADWAJ Ampicillin‚ Vancomycin‚ and Tetracycline Effectiveness on Gram Positive and Gram Negative Bacteria. INTRODUCTION: Bacteria are microbial organisms which are present in various environments. Many bacteria are good and help humans synthesize materials and assist in biological processes‚ such as digestion. However‚ some bacteria can cause harmful diseases. When harmful bacteria infects the body‚ people take antibiotics in order to suppress bacteria. Different antibiotics have

lab we first need to know what gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria are and what it’s composed of. Gram-positive bacteria take up the class of bacteria that stain crystal violet in the method of bacterial differentiation. Where gram-negative bacteria are a class of bacteria that does not retain crystal violet. Instead they are counter-stained pink by Safranin‚ and because of this‚ identifying positive is possible. One of the many differences between gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria is their

goal of this experiment was to synthesize aspirin. In this experiment aspirin‚ also known as acetylsalicylic acid‚ was synthesized from salicylic acid and acetic anhydride. In the reaction the hydroxyl group on the benzene ring in salicylic acid reacted with acetic anhydride to form an ester functional group. This method of forming acetylsalicylic acid is an esterification reaction. Since this esterification reaction is not spontaneous‚ sulfuric acid was used as a catalyst to initiate the reaction
