NaCl Effects on Peroxidase Activity My experiment was to see if adding NaCl to solution would have any effects on peroxidase activity. The materials that were used in this experiment were pH 7 buffer(DI water)‚ peroxidase‚ NaCl‚ guaiacol and hydrogen peroxide; added in that order. Blanks were created for each NaCl concentration‚ 0%‚ 5%‚ 7.5% and 10%. Each cuvette had .5ml of pH 7 buffer‚ 1ml of peroxidase‚ .02ml guaiacol for the experimental cuvettes and 0ml of guaiacol for the blank cuvettes‚

Lab Report INTRODUCTION: This experiment is being done to find out what happens to a carrot or a potato if you place them in two different solutions. Osmosis has a lot to do with this experiment and is the movement of water molecules from a higher concentration to a lower concentration. Osmosis only deals with water and is a type of diffusion. The difference between all three solutions is that in a hypertonic solution the cells fluid rushes out of the cell and causes it to shrivel. In a hypotonic

Gram-positive spoilage and pathogenic bacteria. In food it is common to use Nisin at levels depending on the food type regulatory approval. Nisin cannot be produced chemically therefore it has to be synthesised using fermentation. During fermentation various stages of growth occur and as a result different conditions can occur during this fermentation process‚ eg pH‚ most organisms produce acid as they grow and therefore in the Lag phase ( a period of adptation for the cells to their new environment‚

The Osmosis Scientific Paper Emily N. Charbonneau Grand Valley State University The point of this experiment was to observe if the different concentrations of sucrose would change the speed of osmosis. Osmosis is a process of a fluid that will pass through a semipermeable membrane into a solution which most of the time has a higher concentration. Osmosis will be demonstrated throughout the lab. The importance of osmosis in a plant and animal cell there is a cell membrane‚ which helps liquids and

is completely different from dehydration. Usually‚ foods‚ which are concentrated‚ remain in the liquid state; while drying produces solid or semisolid foods with significantly lower water content. The concentration of liquid foods has three different methods; evaporation‚ membrane concentration‚ and freeze concentration. Evaporation usages gas liquid phase separation. It has the lowest capital cost and the maximum concentration for freeze concentration is more than 50 Brix. Membrane concentration

Introduction In this Lab the students dealt with Osmosis‚ movement of water molecule or solvent from a high concentration to a low concentration‚ through selective permeability‚ a protective barrier that provide some particle the ’direct ’ passage in and out of the plasma membrane ( Lacerda L.2011) Allowing some molecules enter and exit the cell membrane‚ to create a balance in concentration inside and outside of the cell‚ by doing so the cell often become hypotonic‚ where the concentration

Abby Goldschmidt Honors Biology 2° Mrs. Gempel September 3‚ 2015 Daphnia Lab Results Paper Abstract The goal of the study was to observe the effects of multiple chemicals on a Daphnia magna’s heart-rate compared to a control (pond water). The different chemicals were caffeine and alcohol. The heart-rate was the main variable in this experiment. The Daphnia’s heart-rate was observed for 15 seconds and then multiplied by 4 to show its heart-rate in one minute. This was repeated 4 times for each

Introduction: The objective of this experiment is to demonstrate osmosis by using an egg as a model. In order for this to happen the vinegar will make the eggs shell disappears. The reason for this is because vinegar has acetic acid and the shell has calcium carbonate‚ when these come into contact it produces carbon dioxide. This is the reasoning for the little bubbles when the egg is first put into the vinegar. After the shell discinigrates it will become rubbery from the acetic acid‚ at this
