Abstract In this experiment‚ the Ksp for calcium sulfate dihydrate‚ CaSO4·2H2O‚ by titrating 4 times a calcium sulfate dihydrate solution with diprotic EDTA‚ H2(EDTA)2-. For each trial we found the Ksp by means of molarities and activities. The results for the Ksp using only molarities was very different than the Ksp using activities. The average Ksp using molarity only was 2.26 x 10-4 and the average Ksp using activity turned out to be 2.31 x 10-5. The actual Ksp however‚ is 3.14 x 10-5. A percent

How can government subsidies encourage overfishing? It is estimated that governments around the world give a total of about 30 to 40 billion dollars a year to help fishers keep their businesses running. Such money can help fishers by ships‚ fuel‚ and fishing equipment as well as for research and management of fisheries. Yet these subsidies encourage over fishing and the expansion of the fishing industry. This allows for methods to be used that cause overfishing such as trolling nets. 7. Describe

Buffer solutions and common ion effect A buffer solution resists (or buffers) a change in its pH. That is‚ we can add a small amount of an acid or base to a buffer solution and the pH will change very little. How to calculate pH of buffer solution containing both acid and conjugate base? Dissociation constant definition 1.1 can be rearranged into or (note that due to sign change [A-] was moved to nominator). This is so called Henderson-Hasselbalch equation (or buffer equation)

OVERFISHING 1. Overfishing This article was a factual article filled with facts of the beginning of fishing and negative impacts it has made. It is also informative of the fact that this issue of over fishing is hurting our world more than helping it and that we need to do things to end it. 2. Washington post article This article by the Washington post is also a factual article trying to set forth the idea of decreasing the rate of overfishing. Oscar james Geology 130 Introduction to Oceanography M/W 10:35 AM End of the Line: Overfishing in Our World’s Oceans There is no doubt that the oceans are among our biggest resources for life on earth‚ but they are also our scapegoat for some of mankind’s biggest problems. Because the oceans cover the majority of our planet’s surface‚ we believe it to be this massive amount of endless means to food‚ life‚ and nutrients. Unfortunately‚ this is not the case. The oceans are slowly diminishing away

Introduction (let’s meet the fish) The overfishing is a common problem with some species across the sea world. The Bluefin Tuna is one of the hardest hit victim of this fishery. This specie of Tuna is located in the entire North Atlantic ocean but also in seas closed to it such as the Mediterranean sea‚ but also a strip from the equator until Norway‚ and from the Gulf of Mexico to the Black sea. The Bluefin Tuna is one of the most affected stock by overfishing in the sea world. Indeed‚ his current

ruined. Carl Safina‚ the author of Article 1 believed that management techniques should change from having a focus on ‘how much can we take?’ to ‘how much must we leave?’ This would encourage more fish to be left in the sea and help prevent the overfishing of popular species such as tuna‚ cod and salmon. Also‚ Safina mentions that a lack of communication between scientists and the fisheries has meant that safe practises to sustain current fish populations have not been completed. A focus on better

mid- 1960’s‚ when bluefin tuna’s population appeared to have declined. A detailed study of the reason for this decline was never carried out but it could have been due to a change in water temperature‚ availability of food‚ oceanic currents and overfishing. Until the 1970’s‚ bluefin tuna fishing was merely seen as a recreational past time‚ with a giant bluefin having a commercial value of just $0.05 per lb. Trophy tuna were often sold to dog and cat food manufacturers. This all changed in the

How does overfishing occur? What can we do to combat overfishing? There is a high demand for fish‚ and this along with increasingly more effective fishing techniques is causing overfishing. Some of the fishing methods that contributing to overfishing: Drift netting (between 2 boats) Longline fishing (up to 100km behind the boat) Radar/Sonar technology making it easier to find schools of fish No single country can be blamed for overfishing‚ but many countries

American Albacore Fishing Association is the first sustainable tuna fishery to be officially certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)‚ an independent non-profit organization that promote environmental awareness in an industry plagued by overfishing and accidental bycatch. The MSC is a barometer of sustainable seafood as the organization tries to use stringent methods in order to certify fisheries. Retailers and consumers can do a lot to support sustainable fishing and this is something that
