When I first arrived at the Weatherspoon Art Museum on UNCG’s campus‚ I was in awe of the beautifully complex works displayed within it. There was a plethora of paintings‚ drawings‚ and sculptures‚ which not only captivated but enticed me with their unique beauty and grace. This made it quite difficult to pick just one work of art. However‚ as I passed through each exhibit and entered into Weatherspoon’s outside sculpture garden‚ I noticed one bronze sculpture in particular which held my attention

The artwork I chose is the painting “The Banjo Lesson” by Henry Ossawa Tanner on page 337 of our textbook. This painting portrays a man giving a young male child a lesson of playing the banjo. The little boy is sitting on the man’s lap in a chair while the man shows him where to position his hands and fingers to play. The painting was done in 1893‚ and the way people lived during that period can be seen in the painting. The room looks to be dimly lit by a candle or fire on the right side and

The first painting that amazed me was The Oyster Eater which was painted in 1882. According to the book Museum of Modern Art‚ written by Anna Swinbourne states that: “The Oyster Eater is a life size image that shows his sister Mitche absorbed in a meal of oysters at a table conspicuously set for two. An array of flowers‚ dishes‚ and linens spreads out in front of her. Betrays Ensor’s overarching interest in the power and qualities of light‚ and particularly in its ability to enliven both objects

Oath of the Hotatii is an oil-based painting made by painter Jacque-Louis David in 1785. From Khanacademy.org‚ they explain the painting depicts 3 brothers saluting to their father as the woman in the background hang their heads in despair. During a visit to the Phoenix Art Museum‚ I was exposed to hundreds of different types of art. Having only been there once in May for prom‚ I never had a chance to see all of the art that was on display. I was amazed at the different styles and mediums used for the work. One work in particular‚ Madame Adélaïde by Adélaïde Labille-Guiard caught my attention with it’s large size and bright colors. It was made with oil on canvas in 1787 and is approximately 84 x 60 inches and looked in even more massive

“Going green” has become increasingly popular. Solar panels are used throughout the world‚ but don’t produce nearly enough of the energy that they potentially could. The U.S. Department of Energy reports that the efficiency of current commercial solar panels hovers from 11-15%‚ making it costly to produce enough energy for the world’s needs. The main barriers to widespread adoption of photovoltaic technology are installation costs‚ low efficiency and the limited number of peak hours (maximum amount

When taking a trip to the Norton Museum of Art I chose a one dimensioned painting called Adam that was located on the first floor. The artist is Nicholas Carone and was painted in 1956. To the left of the painting‚ Adam‚ was another painting named Personage which was painted by Robert Mothewell in 1943. Personage is an abstract oil painting on canvas with multiple different colors. To the right of Adam was a sculpture called Sea Quarry and was created by Theodore Roszak. The sculpture was not an
