A Hate for England and a Love for Poetry George IV ruled England as Prince Regent under his insane‚ dying father King George III in 1819. At this time‚ England was in a wretched condition. The Napoleonic wars were over and a lot of the population was left unemployed and hungry. The laws of England defended the rich and exploited their citizens. When I was first asked to give a talk on mothers‚ since it would be mother’s day. I started wondering how Mother’s Day came to be. I was surprised to discover that Mother’s Day has a history longer than Christianity!  Ancients celebrated Isis (Mother of the Pharaohs)‚ Rhea (Greek Mother of the Gods)‚ and Cybele (The Great Mother).  The worship of these ancient goddesses is similar to the reverence we show to Mary‚ Jesus’ mother as these Mother Goddesses are often depicted with a baby in arms.

    Futility: Poetry and Owen

Futility ~ Wilfred Owen Move him into the sun -
Gently its touch awoke him once‚
At home‚ whispering of fields unsown.
Always it woke him‚ even in France‚
Until this morning and this snow.
If anything might rouse him now
the kind old sun will know. Think how it wakes the seeds‚ -
Woke‚ once‚ the clays of a cold star.
Are limbs‚ so dear-achieved‚ are sides‚
Full-nerved - still warm - too hard to stir?
Was it for this the clay grew tall?
- O what made fatuous sunbeams toil
to break earth’s sleep

of the soul. Though penned some eighty years ago‚ the poetry of Thomas Hardy remains remarkably accessible and identifiable to a modern reader. While some critic’s claim that his poetic writing is archaise. I identified and empathised with his poetry of love and loss‚ change and decay. Whether he is describing
