The piece from the Renaissance period I chose to write about is Spem in alium by composer Thomas Tallis. This piece is a renaissance molet in Latin which was composed in the 1570s and while the history for this piece is unknown the piece did come up in 1597 in Nonsuch Palace in a catalogue where the piece was dubbed as "a song of fortie partes". Many believe the piece to be written for Queen Elizabeth for her 40th birthday. To create Spem in alium Tallis organized the choir in 8 different choirs

From my perspective‚ but limited familiarity with works of art in general‚ the Raphael painting is significant in that it is considered a prime example of High Renaissance art and considered Raphael’s masterpiece. I believe it is also significant because as a component of the School of Athens (1509-1511) the painting over a period of 500 years continues to influence discussion and analysis among art historians and scholars. History suggests that Raphael was clearly influenced by Michelangelo’s
