This piece is a renaissance molet in Latin which was composed in the 1570s and while the history for this piece is unknown the piece did come up in 1597 in Nonsuch Palace in a catalogue where the piece was dubbed as "a song of fortie partes". Many believe the piece to be written for Queen Elizabeth for her 40th birthday. To create Spem in alium Tallis organized the choir in 8 different choirs
