One of the two stories I chose was “What You Pawn I Will Redeem”. In this story‚ there are various themes illustrated but I will only talk about homelessness and heritage. Sherman Alexie shows how Native Americans have been marginalized to the lowest form of everyday life in America. They exist below the poverty line‚ homeless and without the means to live comfortably. It’s an unromantic‚ un-idealistic place‚ where the friends that Jackson has abandon him‚ and as a result of this he finds comfort

English 102 MWF 11-11:50 I really enjoyed the story What You Pawn I will Redeem. It was very well written and kept my attention throughout the story. It is amazing that he walked by a pawnshop and immediately recognized his grandmother’s regalia without ever seeing it other than in pictures. I enjoy reading about Native American cultures and beliefs. There was a lot of humor in this story and Jackson definitely did not take himself too seriously. I think the 1st person narrator was very important

Was this all a lie or was the author trying to show that this man was really drunk and couldn’t remember everything from back then. Or proving his own point in the story when he said drunken natives were liars. I also was thinking that this man would spend mostly all of his earnings on things like lottery

surprising when I read “What You Pawn I Will Redeem: Noon” by Sherman Alexie (Perkins 31). “I grew up in Spokane‚ moved to Seattle‚” (Perkins 31) is the author’s life as well as the main character in the story. It did not surprise me that the main character and the author had similar paths in life. I questioned while reading‚ and still do‚ how much of the story is real. Mr. Alexie’s experiences must have shown him many of the things that happened in the story in reality and/or to him personally. I was so
