Columbus was born in 1451 BCE in Genoa to Domenico Columbus who was a middle class wool weaver. In his early life‚ Christopher Columbus worked with his dad‚ but eventually when he was a teenager he began to work for a sea merchant and remained at sea until 1476‚ during this time he studied maps and books which convinced him that he could reach land by sailing westward across the ocean.
