A Streetcar Named Desire and Running were two of the plays I attended this semester‚ saying both plays did a fantastic job is an understatement. Each play had interesting storylines that kept me intrigued throughout the duration of the entire showing. All the characters and respective directors did an awesome job as well. Although I had not been to many plays before coming to Washington College‚ had the plays not been mandatory I feel I still would have enjoyed attending them regardless. Both plays

In Tennessee Williams’ play‚ A Streetcar Named Desire‚ he shows illumination for the play through the fight scenes between Stella and Stanley then later on between Stanley and Blanche. Overall it illuminates Blanches unnatural longing for a magical life and shows how she desires a make believe world and society in which she will always have a happy ending and a perfect life. Also the fights show how Stella’s loyalty to her husband‚ Stanley‚ is stronger than her loyalty to her sister‚ Blanche. The

it’s a dream as common as stupidity. Ryan was the first man to confess his dislike of those (men) who practice homosexuality. You don’t know why you were so hurt when he spoke from his belly. You probably were more so afraid of the solitude that comes of not being liked. And yet‚ you intentionally closed yourself off from him to increase self comfort. As with many people‚ you usually find flaws in another to disassociate and‚ as with Ryan‚ it brings you joy and then heartbreak. As a result‚ you move

[The lights are dim‚ slowly turning on. The polka is playing now‚ but out of tune and deflated. On the stage‚ we see Blanche‚ looking like a trapped animal sitting at Mitch’s spot at the poker table. A door opens from Stanley and Stella’s bedroom as we see Stella. The two look sullen as they exchange eye-contact] STELLA: If I had half a mind‚ little sister… BLANCHE: Oh indeed. Sometimes I even wonder if you have a mind at all! Or a heart! Maybe your brute of a husband has rubbed off on you? STELLA:

The poem presents the distress of losing one’s dreams. It deals with the questions every person faces at least once in his or her life‚ when everything we have dreamed of disappears‚ and we do not know how to deal with that anxiety and with the abyss that opens in front of us after that. What to do when everything fails? What to do when you reach a moment in life you never thought about? They are a lesbian couple. Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire for its characters. Crude‚ sensual Stanley; dreamy‚ burned-out Blanche; bashful‚ meek Mitch. That being said‚ the successful portrayal of these characters is the mark of an excellent Streetcar performance. According to many readers‚ the stunning characterization is what makes A Streetcar Named Desire so compelling and legendary. Yet I would like to disagree. I think it is the play’s setting that makes the story so fascinating. Streetcar occupies a specific

Tennessee Williams’ Background to A Streetcar Named Desire • From an early age‚ Williams used writing as “an escape from a world of reality in which [he] felt acutely uncomfortable”. • He wrote about the human condition as he saw it; unafraid to tackle topics such as incest‚ rape and madness. • He believed that “we are all savages at heart”. Which of the characters in Streetcar prove or disprove this? • He lived in New Orleans from 1938‚ a bohemian place where all manner of

Jo flipped the page over. June 21st: School. Mrs Hunt’s interpretation of A Streetcar named Desire. And then quotes from the play including Ash’s favourite: “I shall die of eating an unwashed grape one day out on the ocean.” The same quote was pasted on Ash’s noticeboard in her bedroom. A rant about her mother took up several pages – her voice and her rules and the way she told Ash off for spending money on clothes but then went out shopping most weekends and bought clothes for herself and how

In this poem‚ the speaker emphasizes a clash between the enticing aroma of desire and the destruction that vain desire has brought down upon the speaker. He describes Desire’s “worthless woe” in an effort to help the reader get a sense for the intense feeling of contempt that the speaker has for Desire. The alliteration in this line helps to smooth out the delivery of the poem‚ creating a pattern that mirrors human speech. The rhyme scheme of the poem is ABABBABABCCBCC‚ and the number of syllables
