Response to David Carr’s Articles By reading the five different topic articles I began to see the writing style of Carr. In all five stories he always referred back to his main point. Although‚ he may have slightly drifted away with detail from what he started his article with‚ he always came back to put together what he was saying from the beginning. His style of writing is unique in ways he grabs his reader’s attention and speaks of the issue. The three articles that I felt grabbed my attention

Purpose: to observe and measure the process of osmosis in living cells‚ qualitatively and quantitatively. Materials: red onion cell‚ slides‚ coverslip‚ compound microscope‚ 4% salt solution‚ distilled water‚ potatoes‚ beakers‚ balance‚ paper towels Procedure: Part A Qualitative Observations of Osmosis 1. Make a wet mount of a small‚ thin piece of purple epidermis from a red onion bulb’s leaf scales. 2. Photograph and label what you observe under high power. Be sure to include: cell wall‚ cell

Cheek and Onion Cell Experiment The aim of this experiment will be to show that different cells have different structures and textures. Hypothesis I believe that viewing these different cell types under the microscope will show more detail and variations between the cells. Method Apparatus All apparatus was collected and setup as shown in the table below. function Abstract In this lab the structures of various cells were viewed through a compound microscope. The bacteria in yogurt was viewed a long with a slice of potato‚ and a thin skin of red onion. The potato was dyed with iodine while the red onion was dyed with methane blue. The students had to assemble the first three slides. Two more slides were provided these are the yeast and protozoa cells. Those two are also viewed with the same microscope. Introduction

Mitch Terrell Mrs. Kangas Honors English‚ Hour 3 3-24-14 The American Dream or an Onion The American Dream is an endless onion. One will find endless layers of the American dream onion to peel back in order to grasp for an unattainable center. Only tears will be achieved from this endless peeling of the onion ’s layers. F. The onion believes the human seeks a truth buried in its heart. It believes the human cares for it - why else would the human cry‚ but out of a sense of guilt? it seems to think- and this is the most basic truth for the onion. From there‚ the onion expands its truths; the human is fanatical and melodramatic. The human cannot see that what it searches for does not exist. The human is inevitably doomed to a death by emotion. Thinking itself clever‚ the onion assumes it has built a tower of truths-

a demonstration of this principle‚ a purple onion cell is going to be bathed in different concentrations of salt (NaCl) water. Problem: How do solutions of various salt concentrations influence osmosis in relation to an onion cell? Hypothesis What will happen to the onion cell if it is placed in salt water? What will happen to the onion cell if it is placed in distilled water? If ..the onion cell is placed in salt water then... the cell

EXTRACTION OF DNA FROM ONIONS ABSTRACT The purpose of the experiment was to experience firsthand the isolation of DNA form a plant tissue without destroying its structure and sequence. A white onion was used for the experiment. After several processes‚ DNA isolate was the visible result. Different chemical tests were performed on the DNA isolate‚ namely: Dische Test‚ Murexide Test‚ Wheeler-Johnson test and Test for Phosphate. Visible results were then noted.
