Literature A piece of literature I have read was To Build a Fire by Jack London. This story conveys survival in human nature. This reminds me of the movie The Grey. It’s about eight Alaskan oil refinery workers flying home for a vacation when brutal storm cause their plane to crash in the frozen wilderness‚ meanwhile there are wolves trying to eat them. The human nature in this story is survival. In this situation it is character vs. nature. To Build a Fire is about this man who goes out into the wilderness

“To Build a Fire” is a story about one character‚ the man. This man throughout the story doesn’t say one word. He is pretty calm throughout the story. The main man or the only man for that matter seems to be a hard working man but is lacking in imagination. I believe this man has no imagination because he doesn’t think he needs one. Jack London writes about a man around his fifties or sixties for this story. The only other “character” in this story is the dog that the man runs into. Like the man

There was nothing more isolating then traveling alone in the Yukon in temperatures under 75 degrees bellow zero‚ with no cell phone‚ no nose guard to keep his nose and face warm‚ and simply not enough warmth. The story “To Build a Fire” by Jack London has several themes that was covered throughout the story about a man that decided to travel the Yukon trail followed by a wolf dog. The traveler was given advice and warnings from an old man from Sulphur Creek but simply didn’t take it into consideration

with realism are to inform the readers or for enjoyment. The characters in the stories are experiences the struggles in someway. The struggle in To Build a Fire written by Jack London struggle is when nothing is going in the characters way in the Yukon‚ Alaska. When his first fire went out‚ he stepped in a spring‚ and he struggled to start a second fire he knew that “it was a matter of life and death”. He knows that he could die because of how cold it is in the Yukon. He thought it would be possible

Sometimes everyone feels like giving up‚ and the only thing a person can rely on is his will to survive. Giving up is admitting defeat‚ in every circumstance. In the story by Jack London‚ To Build a Fire‚ the main character learns a hard lesson of reality‚ when he meets his fate. The result came about because of many factors‚ mainly the man’s lack of psychological perserverance on the journey‚ as well as the harsh temperature and surroundings. If there was any hope for the man to survive these conditions

can lead to the worst outcome of all‚ death. When put in a situation that forces one to concede defeat and realize that nature is an environment in which the occupants are solely reliant‚ a feeling of confidence can switch to dubiousness. In To Build a Fire‚ author Jack London strengthens the effect of nature on a man when he develops traits of egotism and ascendancy. The Yukon‚ a territory in northwest Canada‚ is a wild and mountainous region that is sparsely populated. Though it doesn’t embrace

fifty degrees below zero Yukon in Canada be considered? To travel in a foreign land without any people within a mile is quite a dangerous and ignorant idea‚ yet doing this in weather that is fifty degrees below zero is absurd. Jack London’s “To Build a Fire” depicts a man with nothing but a husky and a couple of biscuits traveling in the Yukon‚ and he dies while trying to survive this journey‚ for he faces adversity by traveling in brutal weather‚ by having to make crucial decisions‚ and by fighting

produce stories with twisted plots in which their protagonists encounter many obstacles and setbacks by nature‚ and these predicaments often injure or even take the characters’ lives. Of the many works in The Norton Anthology‚ I find the work “To Build A Fire” represents this literature movement best. The author‚ Jack London‚ skillfully engages his readers by reflecting this notion on his characters - the cruel nature‚ an instinctive dog‚ and an ill-fated man - and in which their behaviors are clarifications

up again.” He is verifying the many people of this world to live life with grit‚ and to understand everyone’s own failures turned successes. It’s good advice that everyone should follow. It’s also the main idea of the Jack London short story “To Build a Fire.” In the story an unnamed man needs (not wants) to make it to his friends. The reason he needs to make it to his friends‚ is that the man is traversing a creek in Yukon‚ Canada. That sounds vague‚ how about the fact that the temperature outside

this poem manifests in the realist literature we have read thus far in this course because it upholds many of the realist themes. Such realistic themes include determinism and survival‚ which are also portrayed throughout the short stories “To Build a Fire” by Jack London and “The Necklace” by Guy de Maupassant. In the poem “A Man Said to the Universe” by Stephen Crane‚ the man declares‚ “Sir‚ I exist!” to which the universe basically responds by saying it does not matter because it is
