Abstract This investigation examined the preferred habitat of the prawn Alope spinifrons for the purpose of keeping the prawn in optimum conditions in captivity. The survey took place on shoreline between Matapouri Bay and Wooleys ’ Bay on the Tutukaka Coast. A. spinifrons populations were surveyed‚ water chemistry‚ temperature and depth were noted as well as substrate type and flora and fauna sharing the area. A. spinifrons preferred sheltered rocky areas where there was good water circulation

sloping rock on the edge of the rock platform. Organisms generally occupy and dominate specific zones. This sampling technique was carried out by constructing a line transect to examine the rock platform from an area of extreme low tide to an area of extreme high tide. Starting at the 0m mark the dominant organisms were identified at each meter. This information was graphed on a diagram. - A Quadrat was used to measure the distribution and abundance of the Tidal Rock-shelf Animals. The 1m squared

the Sun reinforce those of the moon: spring tide * When the moon is at first or third quarter‚ the sun and moon are separated by 90 degrees. The forces of the sun and moon cancel causing: neap tide * Semidiurnal: two high tides and two low tides each day * Diurnal: one tidal cycle per day * In most places tides are mixed. Because of the diurnal contribution‚ there is a difference in height (the daily inequality) between the two high tides in a given day. * The size of wind waves

The Sun and Moon Elizabeth Milam ENG 121: English Composition I Kathy Conner March 5‚ 2012 The Sun and Moon The sun and the moon have both been dated at 46 billion years old. Other than defining time in human experience‚ the sun and moon have very little in common. Their differences range from physical attributes to functions. Since the beginning of civilization‚ both bodies have inspired a fascination in humans. Even though the sun and moon appear to play similar roles‚ they are

darkened my hated freckles which Nana laughingly referred to as angels’ kisses. Sometimes‚ a wave smacked the wall so hard a white foamy spray rose and blanketed me with a cooling‚ salty tasting mist. After a while‚ the waves receded with the low tide revealing a huge peanut butter colored beach dotted with piles of grey rocks. I walked to a place where there was an opening in the sea wall and discovered a steep stairway that descended down to the beach. I ran to Nana’s summer home‚ grabbed an

economically insecure and every bit as prone to anxiety‚ fear‚ frequent change of mood‚ and sensitive to criticism as I ever am in my own awkward age. Here‚ democracy first dawned over the high tide of western colonialism at the end of the last century. Yet in 1989‚ we Filipinos dared to rise against the tide of history and to declare ourselves free‚ the first in all of Asia to break the shackles of Western Colonialism. Even in 1946 when we regained our independence from the colonial powers. As the

Ellen Ryan Biology IA Task G1 Investigation into the biodiversity of organisms at different heights on a rocky shore. PART (1) Ellen Ryan Introduction This experiment was carried out in order to better understand Hong Kong’s ecology and biodiversity‚ specifically focusing on field-based whole organism biology in an area with little human interferences. Method 1. Lay a horizontal transect on the mid-shore (1.75m) 2. Repeat for high-shore (2.25m) 3. At regular intervals of 1m
