Walt was a poet who was active in the early to mid 1800s. He released one of his most famous works‚ Leaves of Grass‚ in 1855. Walter (Called Walt‚ to distinguish him from his father) Whitman was born in Long Island‚ as the second child of Walter Whitman and Louisa Van Velsor Whitman. He later had a total of eight siblings‚ and due to some bad investments the family had to move around and live in a series of different homes.
