their speed. We hypothesized that the bigger woodlice have higher speed than smaller woodlice. We conducted an in-class experiment to test our hypothesis. We took ten woodlice and divided them into two groups: smaller and bigger woodlice. Each woodlouse was then let to run for 10 cm and time taken to reach the destination was recorded. Finally‚ when all woodlice completed running‚ we conducted a t-test. The value of ‘P’ from our test was 0.8956 which is larger than 5% level of significance. Since

Upper Hutt College Year 13 Biology Slater Study Achievement standard: biology 3.1 Introduction to experiment: In this investigation of the ecological niche of the woodlouse‚ I chose to experiment the amount of soil moisture that the slaters tend to prefer. I chose this aspect‚ as moisture is a vital part in the survival of this small creature. Internet sources provided information of the woodlice that shows that they are from crustacean descent and formerly aquatic even though

I had been walking for miles through this never ending cursed old forest. Every step we made on the thin and almost transparent layer of snow had a sudden fall and we heard the snap‚ crackle and crumble of the lanky branches‚ crisp leaves and woodlouse infested logs. Winter was killing the forest. The trees were hunched over and their dead beat bark was blistering under the harsh weight of the freezing bitter quilt which strained their aching ancient backs. A tunnel had been formed. It was as if

Food chains‚ Food Webs and the Flow of Energy in Ecosystems Introduction An ecosystem can be defined as a more or less self-contained function unit in ecology consisting of all abiotic and biotic interactions in a specific area. Flow of energy within an ecosystem is a one-way process; Photosynthesis utilizes light (solar) energy to yield chemical energy that is passed on to organisms at significantly reduced amounts at each level of nutrition. This ‘inefficiency’ in energy transfer is the principal constrain

Report on the distribution of slaters in different level of soil pH Introduction Slater (woodlouse)‚ Biological name Porcellio scaber‚ is probably the most common species in New Zealand. They belong to the biological class Crustacea. Their size is about 17mm in length. They have rough exoskeleton and usually in dark grey colour. They have 7 pairs of legs‚ each pair is attached to the underneath of each thorax segment. Their body consists into three sections: head‚ thorax and abdomen‚ these are
