Every parent dreams of the day they can take a load off and relax, even if it’s for a few minutes.
Being able to drive would help parents out a ton. Parents work all day and then come home only to work some more. Allowing the legal age to drive to stay at sixteen, the youth could step up and help. They would be able to run errands when their mom or dad are too busy and drive their siblings or someone else when necessary. What if an emergency happened at home and someone needed medical attention but an adult wasn’t home? Without a driver’s license the young person wouldn’t be able to properly help the ill
person. Teenagers are quite rebellious when told they can’t or are not allowed do something. So will changing the legal age stop them? Most likely not. They’re not a child but aren’t yet an adult, teenagers feel the need to express themselves. Being confined can make them anxious and frustrated because they can’t do anything. Something about being in a car and driving wherever gives them a feel of freedom. Like they can do anything. Take that away and you get a youth that will start to act out. In conclusion, the legal driving age should not be changed to eighteen. Teenagers need to learn responsibility. Teenagers drive themselves to school and to work, they help pick up a bit of the responsibilities their parents have like grocery shopping or just simply helping drive someone around and they need a sense of freedom. Age isn’t the problem; it’s the lack of knowledge of the road. If something needs to be done it’s not the age that need so be changed. It’s the testing. Make getting a driving license a bit more difficult so that sixteen/seventeen year olds can really prove how ready they are for such a huge responsibility.
