1.5.1 Introduction Research is based on philosophical beliefs which seek to validate the research in doing so one is able to choose the appropriate research method in order to develop knowledge about the study (Thomas, 2010). From the literature review, one is able to gather that climate change has indeed intensified drought conditions in the Eastern Cape. It has been identified as a research problem which needs to be resolved, this section will do exactly that. This section will focus on the research methodology, design, data collection, and analysis.

The research itself is a situated activity which locates the observer to the world (Denzin and Lincoln, 2003) in other words, a qualitative research is a systematic subjective approach used to describe real life experiences and situations in order to gain insight or meaning (Mamabolo, 2009).

The limitations to the study were; time, money and resources, transportation. Money was the biggest limitation because it limited the range and scope of the study meaning that only a few participants could partake in the study. Transport was a factor as public transport is expensive and it can only go to certain areas mainly due to the road infrastructure being of bad quality. Drafting the proposal its self-was time consuming, strenuous and challenging mostly because there was an information
