1. What is diversity? Why is diversity valued?
Diversity, is the basis of difference. Diversity is the difference in who people are the different genders, sexual orientations, races, cultures, and the list goes on. Diversity is valued because that is who we are, America has become a very diverse country. Without the values behind the diversity in our country there would be nothing but hatred amongst everyone.

Ethocentrism is a term that means, someone judging someone elses culture or way of life soley based on the values of there own cultures. 3.
Define emigration and immigration.
Emigration is a term that means, “leaving a country to settle in another.”(Schafer, R 2012)
Immigration is a term that means “coming into a new country to become a permanet resident”.(Schafer R 2012)
Examples of immigration would be me going to Ireland with the purpose of starting a life in there counrty and being a citizen of that country. Emigration would be something along the lines of me jumping a border into another country and setling there without intention to do it legally.
4. What are some of the ways groups of people are identified?
People are labeled by sterotypes, a term that means, “unreliable, exxagerated generalizations about all members of a group that do not take individual differences into account.” (Schafer, R
2012)
There is also the labeling theory, “a socialogical approach introduced by Howard Becker that attemps to explain why certain people are viewed as deviants and others engaging in the same behavior are not.” (Schafer, R 2012)
5. Why do people label and group other people?
People label or group other cultures or races based on education reasons, they have no clue what other cultures are about or the believes that they have and why. Some people also group people based on seeing a trend, as a police officer I am guilty of this. If someone sees a certain sex or race doing something in particular, and then they see it repeat then they are more likley to categorize that individual into a group or also known as a stereotype.
6. Define culture. Is culture limited to racial and ethnic backgrounds? Explain.
Culture can be anything, the way you brought up, or the way you were raised based on where you lived. For example a black man and a white man were both raised in southern Louisianna, they both live a country life eat the sae types of country food and seafood and live the “country way’. They are two diferent people with two different races. Just because you are from a diferent minority group does not mean that you cant live in the same culture. Many people look at culture as an area that you a country or color not the way you were raised. References
