10 Summeries of Cloning
“What is the world’s view on cloning?”

1. Bob Sullivan, “Religious little consensus on cloning”; 2006, October 4, 2007 Bluford library Summery- This article is about some religious views of cloning. Sullivan explains, how the religious groups say that it’s ok in a way to clone. Analysis- Do I think cloning meddles with god’s universe… No, I believe we were in this universe for a reason; a reason to discover and explore. In the Muslim, Jew community both are not in favor of fertilizing embryos to have a complete human but, ok with therapeutic cloning which is cloning for parts of the body. I say, “If you going to dip your foot in the pool you might as well jump in…” Response- the source helped my in a way of understand where religious people stand in the situation of cloning. This would be something I would love to read more on.

2. George W. Bush. “Both human reproductive cloning and therapeutic cloning should be banned.” www.whitehouse.gov April 10, 2002; October 1, 2002. Summery- This is on President George W. Bush speech in which he talks about banning cloning over-all. In Bush speech he states how some friends of his are paralyzed and still against cloning and how medicine should be a main and helpful; solution. Analysis- In Bush’s speech he stat “one reason for banning coning is because there is no evidence that therapeutic cloning would really provide cures for diseases.” It takes time for an experiment like this to work. If you look back to how we got some of our cures today; it’s all from the Germans from when they were experimenting on the Jews. Yes, it was cruel but lives are being saved each day because of it. Response- this source helped me see how our President George W. Bush feels about cloning. I really didn’t care what Bush thinks on cloning.

3. Meg Gorden. ”Cloned animals may suffer.” April 26, 1997; Bluford Library October 1, 2007 Summery- This essay talks about how animals such as a flock of sheep that were cloned and

When a life of wrong happens, people pay careful attention to the victims, but rarely look at the wrongdoers. Human makes mistakes, but what is done afterwards is what defines the nature of mankind. Some people repeat their faults without any regret, some people struggle over their life, trying to determine what is right and what is wrong. However, some people carry on with regret and guilt, spending the rest of their life to atone. Amir in The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is one of them. In the novel, young Amir chooses not to stand up and fight for his companion and friend Hassan, indirectly resulting in the death of Hassan many years after they grow up. When Sohrab,…

Leon Kass’s provides a compelling article on why the world should ban cloning. Kass’ article, “Preventing a Brave New World”, provides Kass’ theories of if society progresses on its current path, society would start to turn to cloning as an alternative to typical reproduction. Cloning offers a way to design an offspring rather than the typical experience of child raising. Kass believes if cloning is not banned, society will be more dependent upon technology and be at technologies whim.…

The main topic can be a topic of controversy; before and after reading the passage, my stance on human cloning stays the same. I still believe that it is not right and not necessary, and that people should focus on more relevant issues in todays world. Cloning wont feed the poor, get people jobs, help the economy, or cure AIDS. People should learn what to focus on and invest more time and money in issues with potential benefits to society, not something like cloning. Lewis Thomas seems to take a similar stance in his work.…

Bill Clinton, United States President during that time, banned the federal funding for human cloning. Shortly after, U.S. states began acting to ban human cloning with the defense of immorality. Fifteen states now hold a ban against human reproductive cloning with that reasoning (Farrell and Carson-Dewitt 1). In 1998, federal legislators came together to discuss the banning of human cloning, but failed to pass any laws. Some federal legislators believe that human cloning, either therapeutic or reproductive, are acceptable with the idea that an embryo is not a human yet. Others believe that an embryo is a human from the start and it is not ethical to experiment on them or use them for body parts (Farrell and Carson-Dewitt…

Gene cloning, also known as DNA cloning, is a very different process from reproductive and therapeutic cloning. Reproductive and therapeutic cloning have many of the same techniques, but are done for different purposes. Many people oppose to cloning & human cloning because when somatic cell nuclear transfer is use to clone the nucleus of an egg and all of it’s DNA is removed .In 1997 the United States president Bill Clinton challenged the techniques of human cloning such as somatic cell nuclear transfer, here is a simple and brief description: the nucleus and all DNA from a fertilized egg is removed and then the nucleus from the isolated somatic cell is transfer to the egg and after a couple chemical tweaks you got a freshly fertilized egg. The isolated somatic cell comes from the organism which is going to be cloned. When the nucleus and all DNA is removed from the egg is like killing a person which is why Bill Clinton challenged this types of…

Many Christians, whether religious or not, object to the idea of cloning, especially if it involved humans. In many parts of the world, human cloning experiments are illegal. Most Christians agree that this is the right position to take. They argue that each human life is a unique and special gift created by God, and it is wrong for people to try and create human life artificially.…

This article does a good job of explaining what cloning is and what the basic principles are. This article begins by talking about cloning and talking about the famed sheep clone Dolly. The article quickly takes a turn in the negative by comparing the process to "Dr. Frankenstein". The author makes the point that in the case of Dolly, although Dolly was a genetic clone, the process of creating the clone involved using DNA and transplanting it into the sheep so that it gives birth to a genetic copy. The author claims that this is ok because the birthing still took place inside the womb of a living creature. However later in the article, the author makes the point that in the bible it states that a child should be the product of a husband and wife. Does this very statement not contradict the other? By this logic not only is genetic cloning wrong, but artificial insemination would also go against the bible, that however is a completely different topic in itself. Although this method of cloning is acceptable, other…

For many years, scientists have been experimenting in the field of cloning. Cloning uses an egg cell and a somatic cell to make a duplicate copy of the organism. It is currently a highly controversial topic in the scientific world. Many people can benefit from cloning. From farmers to patients, not only does cloning help scientists discover more about genetics, it will also help a lot of people. However, there are also ethical issues with cloning, such as the use of embryonic stem cells and cross-species hybrids. For instance, at the Salk institute, a human-pig embryo was recently made and destroyed. The purpose of the experiment was to see if human organs could be grown inside a pig. The authors believe that we are still far off from accomplishing cloning of human organs in animals. I believe that cloning will help this world, but there needs to be restrictions on human cloning and cross-breeding.…

For my history paper I decided to write about women's rights, how they have changed drastically. I decided to write about this because it is interesting to me to see how women use to live, what they were and were not allowed to do. As far as I am concerned it was mostly what they were not allowed to do. I got this idea from the text on page 665, Laurel Thatcher Ulrich was talking about “Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History”. In her paper it talks about Rosa Parks, which is the first lady who obtained civil rights. In my paper I plan to discuss topics like how women were not allowed to serve in the military. Another possible subject in my paper is how women were not allowed to have jobs and if they happened to have one, they got payed a lot…

    Should Cloning Be Banned

The subject of human cloning is a very controversial topic. The cloning of Dolly the sheep in 1997 by scientist Ian Wilmut generated a very unexpected reaction around the world. However these reactions were not all positive. Cloning refers to the development of offspring that are identical to their parents genetically. While it is referred to as an unnatural process, it can occur quite often in nature. Identical twins, for example, are clones. However, human cloning is very new and very complex. In this essay I will examine both sides of the argument into the banning of cloning starting with reasons why cloning should not be banned.…
