24 January 2014 In the Whitman’s poem. He describes the idea of death in his poetry are very unique and personal. For example, in “Song of Myself,” he describes the death directly: “And as to you Death, and you bitter hug of mortality, it is idle to try to alarm me”(Whitman 65). He describes death has the power to take him or kill him away from his life, but he is never scared of death because death will bring something good for him. Because death is part of our life, he considers that death will come to him and to everybody. Moreover, we can say that his poem “Song of Myself” is long, but it is easier to understand. The poem is described in individuality and directly to the frequency of personality.
On the other hand, Emily Dickinson presents the idea of death in the different way. In her poem, “Because I could not stop for Death,” she describes much about nature than personally. For example, in her poem, she will go to death like everyone else, and it happens to everyone, she says, “He kindly stopped for me” and “ We paused before a House that seemed / A Swelling of the Ground” (Dickinson 91). She is uninterested in showing or discussing the ideas. She is accepted to her fate, a normally fate, not particularly personalized for her. She will not to fight and against to death because death is normal nature. She wants to transfer a message that what is coming will come even we do not want to.
