In the rising action of this story a lot happens. As Clay starts listening he listens to her list off a few names and reasons, and as she lists them off he visits the locations that coincide with the things she is saying. When he is listening to them he is wondering
what he did and how bad it could be. He tries to think about what he did, but he couldn’t think of anything bad. He finally gets to his tape and she reveals that she doesn’t blame him, but he was the only one that could actually help her. He let the rumors get into the way of their friendship and if he hadn’t then there may have been a better outcome. That’s when the climax comes.
In the climax it is hard for Clay to think about how he didn’t do anything to help and it beats him up. Clay’s is so mad at himself. He’s mad that he didn’t do anything to help Hannah. Clay gets to mad that he punches a fence and cuts himself. Although he ends up hurting himself all of the emotion he was building up has left him.
In the falling action Clay has anxiety about going back to school. He is scared to run into the people that were on the tapes and the teacher also. He stayed up all night listening to the tapes and finally decides to bite the bullet and go to school.
The resolution to this book is when he goes to school he has a different mindset that he will carry with him because of Hannah’s tapes. He was really affected by her tapes but instead of letting his anxiety take over him he actually tries to make a difference.
