The !4th amendment basically says that any person that has life, property, or liberty could not be deprived by the state unless laws were broken. Now this first portion of this amendment left African Americans subject to to the people of the state. The people who were not of the state could break these laws based on their own accusations. The second portion of the 14th amendment it basically says that the state could not deny any person of life, property, or liberty the right of equal protection. It could not be denied unless they had broken a law. This amendment also gave African Americans citizenship and the servitude to the United States. It gave African Americans the right to vote on who they wanted. The people done all they could to keep African Americans from voting.
