Reid that they were able to put a diagnosis on the unSub and find him. The way that Dr. Reid is portrayed on Criminal Minds, although extremely exaggerated, is accurate to the role that some psychologists play in the legal system. Psychologist are often called in to examine the mental state of suspects and do risk assessments. That is apart of what Dr. Reid does, but in a different context. Although, as we discussed in class it is not psychologist who typically profile suspects. Profiling was Dr. Reid’s main duty among other things. He would figure out who this unSub could be and what, if any, mental disorder they had. Profiling is extremely hard to do successfully and it is something that Dr. Reid is great at. Something that is important to note is that Dr. Reid is considered a genius and has a very high IQ. That is a great accomplishment but as smart as psychologist are, many do not have a genius level IQ and are not able to read minds. Sometimes Dr. Reid comes off as being able to read into the minds of unSubs and that helps him find them. That is apart of what is not true when is comes to the role psychologist play in Criminal Minds. For the most part altogether, Criminal Minds does a good job at portraying psychologist and how valuable they are to the legal
