In 1906 the world's most deadly earthquake that ever happened, happened in San
Francisco, Northern California on April 18th at 5: 12 am. The San Francisco earthquake caused problems for many of the people in the community; it caused lots of devastations throughout the whole city.
The earthquake happened by a temblor that had a 7.7-7, 9 magnitude, which had lasted for about a minute and was the result of breaking the northernmost 296 miles of the 800-mile San
Andreas Fault. The earthquake was so power-ml that it could be recorded a thousand miles away in
Cape Town, South Africa.
Even though the earthquake was pretty bad itself, the fires that happened after the earthquake caused the most damage. The fires had burned for four days; some say it was caused by broken gas lines. Since the water remains had broken, trying to put the fires out was almost impossible to do, Because of it, five hundred city blocks were destroyed. But the damages had been estimated to about four-hundred million dollars just to be fixed. It would be actually 8.2 …show more content…
billion dollars today.
Luckily, it had rained and that tamed the fires, but by the time it did rain the city was already destroyed. There were more than 28,000 buildings burned to the ground, and the city lost five million dollars from all of the damages.

I sometimes wonder whether this subterranean sense of impending disaster is at least partly responsible for Silicon Valley'
s feverish, get-it-done-yesterday work norms "
Because of the earthquake and some fires, it killed more than 3,000 people and left
225,000 people homeless out of 400,000. For the people that had lost their homes, they slept in tents in city parks, and the military government they made lines for people who needed food.

The Congress responded to the disaster in many ways, The House and the Senate
Appropriations Committees acted out to getting, tents, water, foods, blankets, and medical supplies for all the people who needed it. They also helped out in fixing the buildings and houses, for the people whose homes got destroyed during the earthquake. More help came from lots of people all around the world as well, for anyone that wanted to help. Some congressional responses had the House Claims Committee handling claims, from some people who were looking for someone to pay for their destroyed property. But, the total cost of the property damage was estimated to about six million dollars.
