Containment is the attempt to stop the spread of communism. The Cold War split into two main parts and one was communism. Then the Marshall Plan was sent into action. The United States dedicated 12 billion dollars to European countries to help them rebuild after all the damage done.
By the end of the war, Germany was occupied by 4 major forces. The capital of Berlin was also divided between communism and independence. Joseph Stalin decided to put up a blockade around West Germany. (Doc B) The blockade
prevented any and all supplies, including food, from being brought into Western Berlin. So then the United States did the Berlin Airlift. That was an attempt to give supplies to west Berlin, and it was successful. (Doc B) This act of containment proved that the States kept their word when it came to preventing the spread of communism.
Another example of containment was lots of containment. After World War two korea was divided into two parts. In 1950, Communist North Korea attacks south Korea. (Doc C.) Then the United states entered the war. In the end it looked like it was gonna be a stalemate but one war had to win.
The third example was the Cuban Missile Crisis. Fidel Castro ruled Cuba at the time. The Soviet union then began making missiles to attack. Then the United states found out that they were making them and were gonna be prepared. This is how most of this stuff happened, and for what reason?
