Arms and the Enlisted Woman is a secondary source that was published by the Temple University Press in 1989 and was written by Judith Stiehm. The content of this source is valuable because Stiehm provides a collection of personal narratives from the women who enlisted and their roles during the Vietnam War. In terms of purpose, this source is recognizes the forgotten heroes and analyze the American, South and North Vietnam war efforts which affected women from 1955 to 1980. This is valuable for it gives personal narratives from participants of the war.

The content of this source is valuable because it provides the accounts of nurses who witnessed the war, and therefore provides an insight into life during and after the Vietnam War. Additionally, the content of the source indicates that is a valuable source of understanding since reveals information about the gender issues that dominated the countries involved in the Vietnam War shortly after. However, this content could also be a limitation in that the memoirs recalled by the interviewees only reveal one perspective of what happened. In terms of purpose, the source is also limited in that since the interviews are personal reflections, the interviewees are capable of manipulating their stories in order to justify their actions and glorify
