The 1st Amendment came to be because colonists no longer wanted a government censorship, they wanted religious freedom and a right to voice their opinions and views on the world.
For years American citizens were oppressed from this opportunity which was not a successful outlook for evolving and expanding the ideas of different cultures to come together as one. A current event that shows the use of this 1st Amendment is everything happening politically right now. The new presidency and people’s opinions on Trump. People are not ashamed of showing their hatred for Trump, yet Trump supporters feel the same way in showing their supportiveness towards him. Expressing political views is a legalized thing due to the 1st Amendment being put into place for citizens of America. By exercising free speech rights to debate the issues of the day, we can all learn that others have also been subjects to discrimination or denied equal opportunity because of gender, race, religious beliefs or sexual orientation, and together, we can change that due to our 1st Amendment
rights. The 5th Amendment is separated into five “clauses” representing related rights. This “grand jury” provision requires a body of qualified people to make a formal indictment of a person accused of committing a crime against the laws of the federal government. Following what we call a “hearing.” Which is given to the person being accused so they have a fair advantage to present evidence on why they are guilty or not. This will determine if the government even has enough evidence to proceed a trial. If so, the person being accused has the right to a fair trial where they can fight against the accusation! In 1996 the United States Supreme Court decided on the historic case “Miranda vs. Arizona.” A man was accused of a crime and not read his rights, and was then given a disclaimer saying he was aware of his rights and knew that “anything said could be used against him.” The Miranda Clause was put into place and states that anyone being accused of a crime is to be given a fair trial while being reminded of their rights as a human being. The 5th Amendment ensures that we will never have to testify against ourselves, or be tried for the same crime twice. Also, that the government cannot take any of your possessions or property without you being compensated in return. This allows justice to be made for all people of America. The Bill of Rights is one of our biggest influences as American citizens today. It has allowed the idea of liberty and justice for all to be proclaimed, and the safety and reassurance for the people. We are able to have our rights read to us at anytime in any situation, while having the right to express our opinions in a non-violent manner. Slowly, making the world a better and more equal place.
