2 Year Old Research Paper
Remember a time when your parents screamed at you because of your choice of music? It was the generation gap of the past, in the present
Let's start with a question. A few questions, actually: When did it become normal for your average 35-year-old New Yorker to (a) walk around with an iPod plugged into his ears at all times, listening to the latest from Bloc Party; (b) regularly buy his clothes at Urban Outfitters; (c) take her toddler to a Mommy's Happy Hour at a Brooklyn bar; (d) stay out till 4 A.M. because he just can't miss the latest New Pornographers show, because who knows when Neko Case will decide to stop touring with them, and everyone knows she's the heart of the band; (e) spend $250 on a pair of jeans that are artfully shredded to look like they just fell through a wheat thresher and are designed, eventually, to artfully fall totally apart; (f) decide that Sufjan Stevens is the perfect music to play for her 2-year-old, because, let's face it, 2-year-olds have lousy taste in music, and we will not listen to the Wiggles in this house; (g) wear sneakers as a fashion statement; (h) wear the same vintage New Balance sneakers that he wore on his first day of school in the seventh grade as a fashion statement; (i) wear said sneakers to the office; (j) quit the

But what? Dadsters? Sceniors? Dorian Graybeards? Over the course of my investigation, I started calling them Grups. It's not the most elegant term, but it passes the field test of real-world utility. (Here a Grup, there a Grup, everywhere a Grup-Grup.) "Grups" is a nerdy reference to an old Star Trek episode in which Kirk and crew land on a planet run entirely by kids, who call grown-ups "grups." All the adults have been killed off by a terrible virus, which also slows the natural aging process, so the kids are trapped in a state of extended prepubescence. They will never grow up. And they are running the

Mary Eberstadt begins her excerpt from Home-Alone America: The Hidden Toll of Day Care, Behavioral Drugs, and Other Parent Substitutes by addressing the parental agenda on adolescent popular music and its degradation. She implies that the argument is ironic, stating that the parents of today’s teens are of the baby-boom generation where counterculture served as no stranger. But Eberstadt agrees with the parents. She too believes the popular music of today is much darker than that of the baby boom, comparing themes of misogyny, sexual exploitation, and violence to the trends of past generations.…

Growing up there was always music in our house, I was raised next to a record player and my mother always taught me to appreciate all genres of music. When I was nine years old my friends were all gushing over Hannah Montana while I was listening to The Beatles’ One album, and when I was four my favorite song was “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head”. I can remember being in my mom’s office while she worked away at her desk and begging her to “Play the raindrops song!” She would always give in and change it from the local classic rock station to the 1969 traditional pop song “Raindrops Keep Fallin’…

The 1950’s were a time where children were basically mini versions of their parents. These teens were the picture perfect children, non-rebellious, safe, and rule obeying. Suddenly, a new music genre called Rock and Roll started to become popularized. Rock and Roll was an new, exciting and dangerous music genre to these vulnerable teens. They listened to this music in private, seeing how almost every adult hated it and couldn't understand how their children could be listening to such “repulsive” music. Rock and Roll hit America like a hurricane. Teenagers strayed away from the music of their parents generation, and started to listen to the music hated by the older generation. In fact, the church hated rock and roll music…

One of the biggest fears of college students is gaining an excessive amount of weight. As most UMass students know, the school’s dining commons are currently ranked second in the United States by the Princeton Review. When I began attending school, the term “Freshman 15” was a common term that was often spoken about amongst my friends. The term “Freshman 15” refers to the amount of weight which is expected to be gained in the first year of college because of the easy access of food. I always looked at the “Freshman 15” as a myth before college. I wanted to learn more about UMass Amherst’s food. I wondered if it could be possible that UMass could be ranked as having one of the best dinning commons in the country and also have healthy…

John Steinbeck relates the history of the 1900s to the book he writes called Of Mice and Men, which is written in the 1930’s. The issue of segregation is one way Steinbeck compares the two. Another relation to Steinbeck’s life in Of Mice and Men is his job as a “bindle stiff” which means farmhand. One of the major settings in Of Mice and Men is on the farm that is believed to be referred to Steinbeck’s job. Steinbeck was born in Salinas, California. This is also where this story takes place. As you can see Steinbeck uses a lot of his own personal experience to write his fictions. Steinbeck went to Stanford, but failed to graduate from that college. His working class experience helps develop the interesting personality of the main characters in his novels. There is a significance of “dream, friendship, and loneliness” in this story.…

(Doorways for Women…) Being homeless causes these children to relocate constantly, which results in being pulled out of school and away from their peers. Children are more than likely to become homeless after being physically abused, sexually assaulted, or by family circumstances of financial troubles. In order to survive on the streets young teens are more likely to turn to drug dealing or exchanging sex for food, clothing and shelter. Today’s society has become oblivious to what has been occurring on the streets with these teens. They see no use in helping homeless youth due to the knowledge of homeless people taking money or help for granted. American society today does not understand the hardships homeless youth go through to survive living on the streets: like not having the work experience to get a job, not having the education needed to move further in life, learning and growing up with the influences of the streets and health issues. Parts of society have ignored and mocked the uprising issues of homelessness in youth. They choose not to offer help based on the stereotyping of homeless people. Homeless people are see as very sly, only using the money they are given for drugs and other usages not benefiting them. Society views teens crashing at a peers house as a temporary thing until it becomes a financial consequence.…

Gangsta Rap: Crime The cultural majority in America is up in arms over the rising levels of violence and horrific images that have seeped into popular entertainment.
