The electoral college is a system of voting that is completely based on the different populations of each state. This system is not based on the size of the of the state but how many people are in each state. The states with larger populations get more electoral votes and the states with smaller population get less electoral votes. The electoral collage should be changed to fit modern day populations.…
This movie is more about the fundamental human right which was violated. In the movie Ron Klain stated that “the foundation of our democracy is based on the citizen right to vote it is our duty as Americans to fulfill that responsibility. Many people felt like their right to vote were violated. Some people thought that the Supreme Court ruled based on party, meaning that they let Bush win because he was a republican. It was unfortunate that the Supreme Court ruled that they should stop count the votes. It could have been better for Gore and Bush to be satisfied with the votes they…
In November 26, 2000 the election between Gore and Bush made history with their controversial electoral votes, it was total mayhem. The only reason why Gore didn’t win was because the Florida Supreme Court decided to stop counting the ballots and to just give Bush the presidential spot. Gore’s team took forever, they even passed the due date they were suppose to turn in the ballots. There was so little time to count all those ballots that weren’t completely punched out, the news and the people went insane, up to the point were they even had strikes, the people needed answers and a president as soon as possible. There was about 175,010 ballots that weren’t counted. Gore gained about half a million plus more popular votes than Bush did, and personally…

The way our country has elected the president is very unique compared to other countries so in order to understand it, Tanay and I broke down in pieces. In order, for a person to win the presidency they must, campaign in as many states as possible to the backing of their political party. This means that they have to win primary’s to even have a shot at winning the presidency. Once a person has the political backing, they continue to campaign and begin speaking at debates. In regards to the presidential, people vote in their state for president they would like to win. Since most voters were farmers, a two day voting window was needed. weekends were a problem because the majority of people attended church on Sunday. In addition to weekends, Wednesdays were bad because that was market day…
The strong feelings of polarization played a role in this election. As Edward Carmines and James Stimson demonstrated, the collapse of the racial issue into the traditional government activism issue set in motion a domino effect, mobilizing and pulling African American voters into the Democratic Party and, over time, moving conservative white Southerners into the Republican Party.14 The Democratic Party became more homogeneously liberal, and the Republican Party became more homogeneously conservative. Adding to the reasons for polarization are two important factors. First, the memories of the disputed 2000 election were still fresh. The incessant media coverage…
The best way to characterize the campaign efforts of Roy Moore is modest. In a typically red state made up of more than 52% right leaning residents and following the election of Donald Trump many thought this election would just continue Republican dominance in the state (“Party Affiliation”). With just under $1.8 million dollars raised Roy Moore enjoyed a modern day front porch campaign remaining mostly active on social media (Strauss and Bland). Roy Moore didn’t actively travel or push for tough grass root efforts but rather, remained active on twitter with over 609 tweets, attempting to mobilize young Republican Alabama voters (“United States”). Through his social media platform he emphasized his past history as a judge, his conservative…
Is The Electoral College A Fair And Equitable Way To Elect The President Of The United States?…
In the 1996 article “The Alienated American Voter”, Richard Harwood investigates whether the American voter feels that they have become alienated from the political process. Harwood believes that the average American voter feels alienated or in at least some ways, disconnected from the workings of the political system. From how politics are portrayed in the media, to the way legislation and certain topics are presented to the average voter, there are numerous reason for the feeling of alienation.…
Voter turnout is defined as a number of voters who actually cast ballots in an election, to a percentage of people eligible to register and vote. About half of the voting age population historically does not vote, even in presidential elections. The voter turnout is even lower in off year congressional and state elections. Turn out in local elections is even lower. Voter turn out is always higher in years with a presidential election. Voter turn out has generally declined since the 1960’s. Voter turnout can take a huge upswing when the elections have highly contested issues with differing candidate platforms.…
Throughout the early years of the United States many events would occur which would help shape and form the country we have today. Back then they were just figuring out how it works to run a country after becoming independent from the British Empire. One of these major events was the presidential election of 1800. This election was won by Thomas Jefferson who is one of the most iconic men in the history of the United States of America. The election and the process of him becoming president wasn’t smooth sailing though.…
In the year 2000, prominent presidential candidates raced hectically against each other. The main two political parties chose Al Gore for the Democrats and George W. Bush for the Republicans. The phrase, "too close to call", squandered endlessly as the electoral college could not predict the future leader even on Election Night due to the fact that the margins were almost indistinguishable. Florida, the fourth largest electoral vote state, had a nail biting recount due to the ambiguity of the final results. Nonetheless, here contends the political and economic effects of the campaign, and the way the nation changed due to the decisions of the winner.…
The Constitution remained silent on just how these elite electors would be chosen, saying only that each state legislature would decide how to appoint them. Initially, some state legislators picked the electors themselves, while other states had some form of statewide vote in which the electors themselves would be candidates.…
“Voters must have faith in the electoral process for our democracy to succeed,” said Blanche Lincoln. This statement is especially true today due to the lack of information on why we have the electoral college. On November 8th 2017, Donald J. Trump clinched the presidency while not gaining the vote of the majority of the country. This is the second time in the last twenty years, and the fifth time in our history. So why should the electoral college stay in place? The electoral college is an effective system to find out leaders because it makes the elections about the entire country, prevents demagogues from rising to power, and it helps legitimize elections.…
