Intro
The idea of intellectual capital started a decade or so ago, as two trends began to emerge:
1) The shift from production-based economies to service and knowledge-based businesses;
2) The notion of “the invisible balance sheet”.
Intellectual capital has more value for organizations than physical assets.
It doesn’t appear on the company balance sheet but it has more value for organizations than physical assets. Economic wealth is driven more by knowledge and information than the production process.
While past economies depended on use of land, natural resources, equipment and capital for the creation of value, our information economy will depend on application of knowledge.

Generally speaking it 's a term that refers to the value of a company or organization 's employee knowledge, business training and any proprietary information that may provide the company with a competitive advantage. Intellectual capital is considered an asset, and can broadly be defined as the collection of all informational resources a company has at its disposal that can be used to drive profits, gain new customers, create new products, or otherwise improve the business.
Although measuring Intellectual capital is a very subjective task but the most common way and also another definition of it is the amount by which the market value of a firm exceeds its tangible (physical and financial) assets less liabilities in sense of The value of a company or organization 's employee knowledge, business training and any proprietary information that may provide the company with a competitive advantage.
