“Political time” differs from that of ordinary time in the amount of time it takes to reach an end result. As ordinary time may take anywhere from a few days to several years, “political time” refers to the amount of time it takes to achieve the ultimate goal of a group or organization. In the case of the resistance fighters in Vietnam, their willpower came from the motivation to continue fighting for a higher cause. Their ability to continue to move forward for almost thirty years led the subordinates to push through any resistance that opposed their greater cause. The leadership roles also play a crucial role in the motivation of subordinates. Without any supporting motives, subordinates will lose sight of the ultimate goal and soon enough stray away from the end result that once instilled them to continue the fight. As stated by the revolutionary leader and president of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh, “The Vietnamese people deeply love independence, freedom and peace. But in the face of United States aggression they have risen up, united as one man”.…

When the Mexican War ended, America was ceded western territories. This caused a problem on whether these new territories would be admitted as slave states or free states. To deal with this, Congress passed the Compromise of 1850 which basically made California free and allowed the people to pick in Utah and New Mexico. The ability of a state to decide whether it would allow slavery or not was called popular sovereignty.…
n Chapter 10, " The Other Civil War" there were four significant points. The first significant point was the Anti-Renter movement, it showcased how even the less fortunate had some power. They had power in numbers, when the sheriff confronted the tenants for not paying rent, they outnumbered him and stood in solidarity. When he came back with reenforcement, they stood in solidarity against him and his men. When the Founding Fathers of America gathered to sign The Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia, their meeting marked the beginning of America’s separation from Britain. Little did they know, the South would recreate such an event 90 years later when it would secede from the Union. This act of secession would spark the Civil War, which claimed “more than half a million lives and a million wounded.” In the 19th century, a majority of the population started to reflect on itself, in particular, its practices and customs. This introspection resulted from demographic pressures caused by technological advancement, unfavorable legislation, modernized thoughts, and incompetent leaders. Such factors contributed to creating varying perspectives…

The three most significant consequences of the Civil War were how to punish the south, what we were going to do with the slaves, and how we were going to reunite the United States. In my opinion, reuniting the country was the most important thing that we had to take care of. One problem that we were faced with was how the south was going to be punished. Abraham Lincoln did not think that this was a very big priority in repairing the U.S. after the war and neither do I (pg. 470).…
