many lights in a studio setup might affect the mood of the portrait.
2.
With natural light through a window, what angle do you want the person at toward the window?
The person should be at a 45 degree angle to get a dramatic effect. It usually depends on how you want the photo to look and the direction of the window and the sun.
3. How did the party pictures differ from the strobe lighting to the lower wattage continuous light?
With the strobe light, the background was almost completely darkened. The strobe light was too bright and caused the background to “disappear.” With the continuous light, you could see the downtown view. Since there is a lower wattage more of the background is shown.
4. Why do you think experimenting with light is so important in photography?
Experimenting with light is very important in photography. Without light there is no photograph. Having different angles and types of lighting can affect the photograph in many ways. By experimenting you can find the right light for that photograph.

1. Why do we often miss the effect of the light in our photograph?
We often miss the effect of light, which can be subtle, in our photographs because we are concentrating on another aspect of the photo.
2. When should you consider the light in a
photograph?
You should consider light before taking a photograph. By getting a “feel” of the light in that scene, you can tell how to form your picture without getting too much or too little light.
3. How do elements in the scene affect the lighting of a picture? Give an example of this.
Elements can affect the lighting of a picture because of their reflection or the way they filter. For example, in one of the photos shown in the video with the two siblings, the brother’s shirt reflected light onto his sister’s face. Changing the angle of the photo also affected the lighting in that picture. By being higher he was able to control the light and not have too much of it.
4. Why is seeing the light in our pictures important?
Seeing light in our pictures is important because without light there would be no picture. We have to examine light in each picture in order to create the best photo possible. By seeing light we can do the necessary changes to our photos in order to get the best effects.
5. What do you think is the most challenging aspect of working with light in photography? What can you do to reduce this challenge?
The most challenging aspect of working with light in photography, in my opinion, is when you don’t have enough light. I find that I often want to take a photo before realizing that I do not have enough light. Whether I am indoors or outside at night, I can’t find a way to keep my photos well lit. To reduce this challenge I will need to use a continuous light source.
