Why the story about the animals is not true:
1. Point : Richard Parker's body would atrophy and he would eventually die. Proof: Richard Parker would not survive the 227 days stranded on the lifeboat. He is sitting for majority of the day on a lifeboat and getting no exercise besides walking in a circle. Now this 450 pound tiger needs exercise and they normally get it from hunting prey in their natural habitat. However in a lifeboat he is not capable of getting the exercise he naturally and desperately needs to survive. Now muscles atrophy when you do not exercise for a long time, but if you eat enough it should not be a problem. Richard Parker was getting much less than the minimum of food he needs and was getting extremely little to no exercise. Now put 227 days on a lifeboat with no exercise and little food, this 450 pound Bengal tiger would simply not survive because his muscles would atrophy which would not allow him to walk and he would eventually die Significance: If Richard Parkers body had atrophy like it should have there would not be a story. Richard Parker and Pi living together on the boat was what the story was about so if he had died of could not move(muscle atrophy) then the story would have no significance. The story Pi made up was symbolic and one of the main symbols was Richard Parker. If you take away that then you have lost, not the story but the meaning of it.
2.
Point: The animal story was used to portray the real story, the one with humans.
Proof: Pi's story with the animals was simply not possible. The Japanese shipping company people knew that the animal story was not real but simply used to portray reality. They brought up a good point on how they animals were let out of their cage when the ship was sinking. Pi's father had the only key to the cages and any other way to release would require a crowbar. When a ship is sinking the first thing that
